This

Like there's no need to enforce this to a ridiculous extent and punish people, just some resource that explains why it's best not to spoon feed would be nice

I have to agree. I understand that there are users here who are very expirienced and knowledgeable, where they help so many people it eventually becomes draining to do anything but give commands.

#

But as someone who reads aupport threads to learn how I can troubleshoot my own problems, or has recieved support in the past, it does help to know "why" something is done the way it is.

#

Of course you can simply tell someone to look itnup themselves, but that's quite dismissive and often can lead to someone who's new to be overwhelmed by the amount of info, let alone how to get it.

I just think this video needs to be seen by more people

Like, the message being that people getting into something really hate being talked down to or otherwise being bombarded with information which may be relevant and optimal, but when you're getting into something you really really don't need to worry that much.

#

I forget the saying but it's basically that most things in a given hobby will get you 80% of the way there, which is good enough

twin nebula
#

And you can show people the way and what's going on without talking down to them

stone herald
#

And as long as the other person is willing to learn, then you shouldn't talk down to them

#

not everyone can piece together a wiki, an initial for-sure working path to begin with is usually nice

#

its how i started on arch lol

stone herald
#

Becuase I trid following a video and decided to follow the wiki too

#

And since the wiki said to not follow video tutorials I just stuck to the wiki

As if that's ever a surprise

stone herald
#

And re-read things if they don't make sense

#

Follow hyperlinks

#

That kinda thing

#

Though I agree that breaking it into visually seperate steps would be beneficial

#

But at the same time, it kinda already is?

twin nebula
#

Bleh, maybe i just had no attention span

#

Petition to add a subway surfers clip to the wiki page universally ✅

Abstracting concepts to suit your needs is a skill though

twin nebula
#

this is why i often just suggest not using arch first thing

stone herald
#

And I think that's where some people here are going wrong and hence why I ask "What made you want to try Arch?"

the archwiki is pretty bad--i think this is the main thing that discourages people from trying to figure things out on their own

Have you ever seen the Ubuntu documentation?

fathom pecan
#

have you seen the people joining just for that?

why do you think that is?

the amount of documentation for third party software on the arch wiki is really nice as a somewhat new users
