That’s a stupid suggestion from that person.
Check lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net?
You made a typo.
Where ?
Are you blind? lspci -nnk | grep -iA3 net
Yeah right eye lol
Output???
How about ip link?
It shows the usb
Run sudo ip link set wlp3s0f3u4 up and check after ip link show wlp3s0f3u4
Still down
What do you use for Network Management?
NetworkManeger
Although i think tgere might be others i saw when i was following cluade
Check nmcli dev wifi list
Can you connect to other Wi-Fi networks other than your home one?
Run sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager
And after that run
nmcli radio wifi on
nmcli dev wifi list
Not really i dont have the others passwords
There we go now it shows
Should i use nmtui
Yeah, sudo nmtui
This was the issue i ran into before i got suggested cluade
Possibly
All signs show working wifi but it can't see your network, which can have a variety of causes
First thing I'd be checking is the router
It keeps showing dowm
Devices might show DOWN if they're just not connected
You would not get a scan like this if it wasn't lined up correctly
I see
How would i go about that
My phone is connected doesnt that mean its fine ?
Routers can be complex and finnicky things
Seeing as this is a laptop, have you tried scanning/connecting from a different spot in the house?
Ill try
tbh it could be those ones at the top of your scan, without SSIDs
Wdym
Nah still and im right next to it
Got a phone or other device you can hotspot and connect into to make sure the wifi is OK?
Also systemctl status NetworkManager.service and systemctl status iwd.service would be good to see
My laptops bluetooth doesnt work since its connected to my wifi card and my wifi card isnt supported on arch i use a usb dongle
What am i looking for
Systemctl status
Specifying the services is important
and systemctl status iwd.service ?
I have a vivobook too btw. It's bendy. If i pick it up by a corner it clicks the mousepad
And it makes me semi surprised that whatever onboard wifi it has doens't work with linux apparently
Ah, mediatek 🙄
OK that's good
Its so annoying
I heard some people replaced their wifi cards with others cus of this issue
No way
What now ?
I'll admit I'm running out of ideas
What happens if you try to connect to another router?
Same "network not found" error, or does it say "secrets not provided" ?
Hmmmmmm that does make me more sus of what your router might be doing
I feel that makes your router being weird somehow a lot more likely
I mean my families wifi works fine although they run windows
Also laptops
At least reboot your router I think
So I triple boot on one of my machines, and a while back windows and arch worked fine, but my gentoo install just would not see my wifi at all (I could see all my neighbours). It wouldn't even appear in nmtui or nmcli d w l as it does for you
I spent ages trying to work out what I'd done wrong on gentoo, but rebooting the router made it appear 😄
I guess it had something to do with conflicting hostnames or something. Routers are weird
Okay ill give it a shot and see what happens
From what I've seen (and ALPHA checked with you, they're switched on) you're set up OK linux-wise
Hmm one more thing to check I guess is that there are no other connections stepping on this one somehow
nmcli connection show
But as I say, I'm out of ideas really. 🤔
Okay so
I rebooted the router then restarted Network manager and it showed i tried connecting put in the password now im here
AYYYY IT WORKS
Ahaaa
Thanks
mushroom.botherer received a thank you cookie!
Routers!
Pain in the ass
