#steam and wifi are fucked up

okay so tell me which one you wanna disable, iwd or network manager?
i remember a script that reddit told me would fix my problems that would automatically enable iwd
so probably iwd
well
i mean networkmanager
keeping iwd
okay so sudo systemctl disable --now NetworkManager.service
and if you prefer support-voice I can do that, I just entered by accident xD
after this systemctl status NetworkManager.service just for good measure
This shuts off my internet
Also I got logged out of discord
you'd need to connect with iwd
lol
I remember trying to connect with iwd
Uhh
which you usually should not do
so is that script re-enabling iwd after we disabled it earlier?
I think so
ughh
I knew I shouldn't have trusted sketchy reddit code
please try to find that script otherwise I have no way to know what is going on
i found it
➜ conf.d pwd
/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d
➜ conf.d
➜ conf.d ls -latr wifi*.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 32 Sep 5 04:54 wifi-powersave-off.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 26 Sep 5 05:19 wifi_backend.conf
➜ conf.d
➜ conf.d cat wifi-powersave-off.conf
[connection]
wifi.powersave = 2
➜ conf.d
➜ conf.d cat wifi_backend.conf
[device]
wifi.backend=iwd
➜ conf.
# Now restart the NetworkManager service, and all should be good!
➜ conf.d sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager
➜ conf.d sudo systemctl status NetworkManager
i dont think thats technically a script but
umm
aaa
wdym
i dont know anything i just didnt want copilot on my pc
uhh
but
there is powersave.conf, iwd.conf and wifi_backend.conf
i deleted the contents of IWD
im fine lmao
so this is just networkmanager config
okay
let's just enable NM atp and disable IWD
yep
it seems u set the backend of networkmanager to iwd
yeah
alright so u decided finally u wanna use networkmanager and not iwd?
okay delete that wifi_backend.conf file
there was wdym
??
it was finals week and i was functionally braindead
but u deleted that file?
enable networkmanager
it already was enabled
reboot the whole pc or
yeah
yep still nothing
what was the command to kill steam?
pkill steam
how o.O just run steam in the terminal steam
no redirection to a file this time
does it also not output anything?
does it still give u a message about libc if u open it from the icon?
no
still nothing
pacman -Q | grep mesa
idk nglll
run steam --reset
The Internet disconnection issue came back from the dead
lspci -k > lspci.txt
and post it
Okay
Internets not coming back on
sudo systemctl restart NetworkManager.service
no??
uhh I don't see a wifi card in there
yeah thats probably the issue

alright so
u need this driver from the AUR
before that make sure these packages are installed: dkms and the headers for your kernel
which kernel do u use?
default linux?
idk
uname -a
Linux archmogo 6.18.2-arch2-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Thu, 18 Dec 2025 18:00:18 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux
then install this aur package
okay
lsusb -tv just to make sure
put it in a file for better readability pls
okay it seems to be using that driver
good
hopefully no more disconnects
hmmmmmmmmmmm
mmm
...
I think it'd because of steam because it cut out last time
u sure u installed that AUR package? if so then how did u do it?
Gimme a sec
Won't let me reconnec5
internet cut out
Nvm
Wait that was due to something else entirely
?
okay wait for it to finish
thats for steam
ik
u didn't install the wifi driver...
i did?
well it's not listed?
?
I'm kind of confused because it seemed it was already using that driver
is it already in the kernel? huh
hold on don't install that package let me look some stuff up
okay
ok it seems that there's no need cuz the kernel driver supports it ig
alright forget that AUR package
ughh
back to steam
what happened
after it finished updating?
its been spew bullshit like this
okay so I guess the update is done
do i close the terminal now
now we're back to this
this was the thing i did orginially lol
it just stopped working on day
did you update it?
yah
any errors it was giving?
ok first of all don't use sudo with flatpak
- 21
loads for a bit and then closes
whats the error?
running the steam command will just run the repo installed steam
run flatpak run com.valvesoftware.Steam
^^
u didn't install the right steam flatpak
uninstall that with flatpak uninstall com.valvesoftware.SteamLink
and do flatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam
oh
sudo pacman -Rns steam
let's not delete it for now
let's just test if Steam flatpak works for you out of the box or not
its uhh still trying to run
spewing this stuff
there isn't anything helpful there just like the pacman steam
🥀
yeah i cant find anything i can try and debug from it ðŸ˜
did you run the command flatpak install flathub com.valvesoftware.Steam and that's it?
@night junco output of locale and locale -a pls
no
it installed fine
running it tho
looks fine to me
and how did you run it?
flatpak run com.valvesoftware.Steam
🥀
does work
and run it again
is it different on konsole?
nvm
it used to not work for some reason

aaaaa
im never getting steam to run
Is there a specific reason flatpak steam is required
More often than not flatpak anything is an issue causer for me
native steam does not wanna run on their end whatsoever and we kinda gave up lol
yeah pretty much
@night junco do this pacman -Qkk |& curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
it will take a while so wait
until the command is done, depends when it wants to be done lol
idk just wait, shouldn't be extremely long
okay
just ran pacman -Qkk and it took like, less than a minute maybe
still going
its still going
would you mind sending a ss? lol
uh?
aaa-
did u run steam?
yep
did u not not stop running steam..
oh
I said this
i hate this ðŸ˜
it should give you a link then
okay i didnt run steam and it still did this
its uhh still going
what do you mean?
I don't understand
okay let's ctrl - c and show us the command ur running
okay here's what
close every single terminal on your system
and run the command I gave
please
because I am beyond confused
close all terminals
you and me both buddy
okay now do i open a new terminal
and run this ^
yes
in a new fresh one
okay so close all terminals, run pkill steam just for extra measure and run that commad ^
FINALLY
OH MY GOD
shit it actually worked
WE DID IT
ty
okay i swear to god i didnt run steam it just did that
probably something to do with your terminal
okay this seems fine
@night junco I don't know what's wrong, try the arch forums multimedia and games section https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewforum.php?id=32
make a post there and maybe someone there can figure out your issue
noo
what do i answer for this question
run the command and answer with the output
run the command and give them ur output!
im too tired to deal with arch user bullshit
just copy paste it?
u missed a single quote at the end
youre missing a ' at the end
I never understood the point of this really
the point is to stop bots probably
Arch forums are really newbie hostile, we should all try and do better...
how is it newbie hostile to copy and paste a command in your terminal
yah thats why i didnt want to go on them
it's to keep track of the users ig lol, you can just tell who is who by that command
It's a symptom of the same problem
its 4 am and i have a cold gimme a break
u should go sleep
i should
u can make a forum post tmrw
nini
thank you for solving my wifi
yw (I hope it doesn't disconnect again) ^_^
You are the first group of people who use arch who are not the most condescending people in the world and I thank you for that
You guys
yw
We’re not all bad, we promise!
Just don’t talk to the Manjaro users…
I don't even wanna know
