#BeamNG.Drive performance issues

I have a weird problem. I have really low fps on BeamNG.drive. I fear it may be a driver issue. Arch wiki says to use open source drivers and these are the only drivers that currently work with my GPU. However BeamNG Forums state that I should use proprietary. I had issues with proprietary on this card with it not recognizing my monitors so I probably wont touch those.

Have you checked GPU/CPU usage in a performance moniter such as top, btop, or htop? This will give you info to see if your GPU is being utilized or not. Also, which renderer are you using? Have you tested the Vulkan renderer ?(Dunno if it'll help but worth a try) Which drivers are you currently using? You can check with nvidia-smi. I highly recommend using the Turing and newer package as that works perfectly (even with BeamNG) on my RTX 5070 ti, which I can't imagine is much different from your card

frosty magnet
#

It should be part of the nvidia driver package

#

Did you check GPU usage in a performance monitor?

I meant is the game open

#

and running

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

Open the game and load up a map. Then look in a performancs monitor to see if you GPU is being used

#

you can also use nvtop sudo pacman -S nvtop

prime yacht
#

fuck it we ball

#

my gpu is not being utilized at all

frosty magnet
#

Ok that makes sense

prime yacht
#

I didnt even have to load a map

frosty magnet
#

can you run `glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

#

if you see RTX 5060 Ti thats good news. If you see something else than thats bad

prime yacht
#

what if its nothing a >

frosty magnet
#

nothing?

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

No closing apostraphe

#

"OpenGL renderer"

#

yours is "OpenGL renderer

#

do ctrl+c and rerun

prime yacht
#

its good

frosty magnet
#

ok

#

Do you know if other games work?

prime yacht
#

No I havent tried. If you give me a sec I can run KSP

frosty magnet
#

Sounds good

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

Yeah makes sence

#

What I would recommend doing is installing the Turing+ Nvidia package and rebooting. Hopefull that fixes the issue

prime yacht
#

package not found

frosty magnet
#

Its not one package, its a collection of package

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

Ok

prime yacht
#

As in have had it installed this whole time

frosty magnet
#

Yeah ok

#

Check if its loaded properly lsmod | grep nouveau

#

wait mb wrong driver

#

lsmod | grep nvidia

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

Seems right. Can you check if you have this installed: lib32-nvidia-utils

prime yacht
#

I spent hours earlier doing just that

#

yes I do

frosty magnet
#

Do you have and other drivers installed? i.e. have you ever downloaded another driver package such as proprietary

prime yacht
#

I used proprietary when this drive was in my laptop. It turned into a brick so I put the drive in my desktop. let remove those

frosty magnet
#

If you have multiple driver packages they can fight for cntrol of the gpu

prime yacht
#

They were uninstalled when I switched to open

frosty magnet
#

Ok. And your entire system is up to date sudo pacman -Syu

prime yacht
#

I shut it off last night but Ill give it another shot

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

And you tried the other renderer?

#

Vulkan

prime yacht
frosty magnet
#

vulkaninfo | grep nvidia

prime yacht
#

no output

#

yep

frosty magnet
#

but OpenGL recognizes. Weird

prime yacht
#

steam

frosty magnet
#

Check proton version?

#

You are using proton right?

prime yacht
#

I think I have flatpak installed but I havent touched it in a while

frosty magnet
#

Did you install steam with flatpak or multilib?

prime yacht
frosty magnet
prime yacht
#

I can try it

frosty magnet
#

try it

prime yacht
#

wine??

frosty magnet
#

its the emulator that proton uses to run Windows games on Linux

prime yacht
#

I can turn off the compatibility tool and try it that way

frosty magnet
#

that will make it not work at all

prime yacht
#

idk what that is so prob no

#

yes

#

how

#

Nothing in the wiki for that

frosty magnet
#

yes mostly

prime yacht
#

Should I reinstall steam?

opaque tapir
#

hm.. out of curiosity, whats the output of pacman -Qs vulkan?

#

curious if this is an issue with a lack of a 32-bit vulkan driver (as steam relies on multilib)

opaque tapir
#

well.. it seems to be there.. im honestly not quite sure where to go from here

#

could you actually also provide pacman -Qs nvidia just to double check that it at least isnt competing drivers?

prime yacht
opaque tapir
#

well.. its not competing for sure.. this geniuenly has me stumped

prime yacht
#

The game (And I dont think anything else) is communicating with the gpu

#

My only thought is my laptop had an AMD CPU and this desktop has an intel cpu.

frosty magnet
#

The CPU shouldnt matter

#

However, when switching machines its best practise to reinstall

prime yacht
#

the whole OS or just the cpu drivers

frosty magnet
#

There are no such things as CPU drivers

#

The whole OS is best. Save what files you need and reinstall is my suggestion

opaque tapir
#

i believe general rule of thumb is.. take whatever you wish to save from your home folder and reinstall the rest

prime yacht
#

Can I save themes and colors or will I have to find that aswell.

frosty magnet
prime yacht
#

I was trying to avoid this. Guess I dont have a choice.

#

Is there a way I can do this without an external drive
