I’m trying to get arch Linux on my pc but i have two drives and on my secondary one, (i have to force load by pressing F8 on startup) i want to actually get arch, since i currently have rocky installed. but i have two drives as i said and my other one is a windows one, which I’m actually terrified to wipe (although i don’t mind wiping the current Linux one since it has no important files) so i don’t exactly know what to do here. i was told to write “lsblk” so here are all my devices. is there a way i can make sure Linux is being installed on the proper drive?

yeah wtf I've never seen that before that's funny lol (not a problem tho)
ooh
That's lvm
I’m assuming sda is windows since it has a “swap” item
so you have 4 drives connected to your computer, 1 NVME SSD (thin stick) and 3 hard drives (big chunky ones, 2.5 inch, 3.5 inch, or usb)
hi
That's completely wrong
oh my bad
Also you can see filesystems by adding -f
it looks like you already installed linux
pff 💀 bro has a red name fore a reason
yes one of them already has Linux but it’s rocky
is that the one you're wanting the linux on now?
Gotta deactivate the lvm volume group if you want to format that partition
Or you can keep using lvm and format the filesystems
well I was wanting to help but I feel I'm out of my depth
change title to "installing arch"
I'm going to sleep

• What did you do? What did you run or test? Where?
• What actually happened? What were the exact results, complete log contents, exact error messages?
• What did you expect? What were you aiming to achieve? What result were you looking for?

got it
tbf they did make a post from #quick-questions
unless OP wants arch hyprland
wait it’s not letting me edit my message
yes i do indeed
WHY CANT I ÉDIT THÉ MESAAGE
WAIT
then install it
yes I’m trying to figure out how to do that but i don’t want to overwrite my windows drive
hold up
Vmmmmmmmmm
ok im gonna try a virtual machine
.aw installation guide
Installation guide
this should cover your needs
You dont know what partitions are so don't jump in
hyprland has problems in a vm so don't bother with that
jst install arch
look at the first message for context
what part
im trying to install it i just need to maker sure i know which drive im installing it on
i have two startup drives (one windows one linux) and i want to overwrite the linux one but idk how to make sure im overwriting the linux one
okay for current context:
You said: I'm going to try a virtual machine
I said while reading that context: Don't bother with hyprland in a virtual machine because others had trouble with it and it's not worth the effort
You don't need hyprland in the vm
Just install xfce or smth
What you want to practice is the install, not the hyprland configuration
ok so when i've practiced i do the actual thing?
like when i trust i can do it right
If you feel like it
i mean yeah thats my initial plan
