Hey folks,
I just finished my Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and now I want to use Arch Linux as my main system on my T480, which I mainly use for private development. I already have some Linux experience, having installed and worked with different systems in VMs. I’ve also installed Arch multiple times before, but I’ve never really worked with window managers, and I haven’t done any serious development on Arch yet.

I came across Omarchy, which sets up Hyprland directly – would that be a good choice for getting started? It seems like a quick way to get a working setup that also looks nice.

Do you have any tips on how to best set up a development environment on Arch? Like which tools/setups have proven useful, or things you personally find helpful that beginners might not immediately think of.

Looking forward to your recommendations!

If you want to learn, avoid automagic tools like omarchy

The Arch installation process has a number of decisions to make on the system you are setting up. Partition layout, encryption, filesystem, initramfs generator, bootloader - even before getting to the fun stuff like graphics and desktop environment

"quick ways" skip important steps that you would benefit from understanding, and fundamentally when using other's tools you will end up with a system that is not your own
