okay now reboot since it probably updated some core packages
Ok im back from reboot
okay
now try to reinstall vmware-workstation from the aur so yay -S vmware-workstation
@edgy marsh @sullen mantle what's the problem?
VMware
he needs to get a vm working to make a windows 10 usb with rufus
ye
you don't need to do that to make the usb
and Ventoy fucked up my iso
dd doesn't work either
yeah
we know
I used Windows XP for a while and had no issues. Win10 will be fine
@sullen mantle don't use vmware use virt-manager
qemu wasn't working well
my system is very fucked
yeah
my system must be fucked then
did you enable virt-manager?
Plus, with Arch I keep getting graphical bugs despite having the correct drivers installed and Windows doesn't do that. I just need something very lightweight on my computer that isn't going to fuck it
si
@sullen mantle photo please
is your internet unstable
@sullen mantle remove all of that
you entered the wrong one, select 7
pacman -S qemu-base virt-manager
No it's very stable. I get 50MB/S
okay
qemu literally doesnt wrok for him
sudo systemctl enable --now libvirtd.service libvirtd.socket
I have qemu enabled in virtmanager
then open vm-manager
yay -S vmware-workstation and select 7
that won't work either
I mean, QEMU loads the iso but there was a weird image at the start
I think I downloaded a fake iso, from microsoft.com
that aint possible
@sullen mantle you needed to install a few packages and configure the vm before pressing install
@sullen mantle why are you making the rufus iso?
his system is fucked and he needs an os thatll work
hold on, I can help fix it
uhhh is it booting
oh good
When I ran the ISO in QEMU my computer lagged out then it crashed instantly after
what is ur pc specs?
@edgy marsh how is your computer unstable?
wrong person
@sullen mantle how is your computer unstable?
yea idk if thats adequate for vms
@sullen mantle
it's old
so?
It's a Dell OptiPlex 7010 SFF from 13 years ago meant for Windows 7
arch or a lightweight distro is gonna be the best on that hardware
why does that matter?
bc it makes it slow?
I can make it faster
That's like asking a dead man why he can't work
"Why can't you work?"
no response
"Well why does it matter he's dead?"
I can revive them
no comment
My computer just has very specific needs but also needs the right drivers
just install mesa-amber
It's Intel, not AMD
intel uses mesa
Well at least i don't have screen tearing anymore
now we can fix the bigger problem
With 4 GB of DDR3 doing anything on this is hard
@sullen mantle pacman -Qm | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
pacman -Q | curl -F 'file=@-' 0x0.st
i don't trust that command
this tells me what packages you have installed
i swear if my pc borks
this is mine https://0x0.st/87QK.txt
and the other one please
the what?
add a ! to debug packages in your makepkg.conf https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/pacman/-/blob/main/makepkg.conf#L100
this makes it so you can't install debug packages
what're debug packages?
you have debug packages installed
maltego-debug is a debug package
you don't need those debug packages
i did vim makepkg.conf and it did nothing
I dunno it probably came with something
command not found
and don't use the git version of yay
I don't have nano
pacman -S nano
then do this
ok im there
go to line 98
and add a ! to debug
then save and quit
then sudo pacman -Qttdq | sudo pacman -Rns -
this removes orphan packages
as those debug packages or orphans
it wont let me write it
you need to sudo nano it
also I can make it even lighter by moving from a de to a wm
I hate the window managers, they're a lot of work
@sullen mantle this one is simple and easy to use
it's not hyprland
it's Enlightenment
@sullen mantle
ok
arch is taking up over 300MB idle, and antiX uses ~250MB idle w/ everything installed, and a bit lower with nothing but the essentials. It's Debian based, but good enough and doesn't get security issues because of the AUR.
@sullen mantle hold on
using a wm with the bare minimal packages can fix that on arch
Look, I either reinstall Arch to get the bare minimum with a shitty WM or go to another distro
you don't need to reinstall to fix it
just pacman -Rns xfce4
and pacman -S enlightenment
I'm using XFCE right now, so it doens't let me
@sullen mantle photo please
ralsei cube
@sullen mantle now pacman -Rns xfce4
you can change that in the settings
did you pick the x11 or wayland version?
it didn't give me an option for either
how did you login into enlightenment?
How?
I typed in my user password, went through set up and done
settings -> fonts
yeah
the font it bigger but the damn discord stuff in miniscule
uh huh
i did that
i made it bigger
I can't see what i'm typnig
@sullen mantle reboot discord in order for it to take effect
how
close and reopen it
Do you see how tiny it is?! I even rebooted Discord
@sullen mantle pick a new font to make big
yeah i'm not fucking using this. My CPU is dying
I'm back in XFCE and it's no lag at all
@sullen mantle remove those packages you don't need
