hi
Does firefox only crash when running it as a background process?
or does it always happen?
When I do firefox & and close the terminal windows it just closes
oh this is normal
Oh nvm then
Well I need help setting up discord electron
Theres literally no page for it as far as I know
I think you need to do firefox & disown to actually run it independently of the terminal
You should be able to just launch it like normal
well the thing is I dont even know what like normal is
But the usual way of launching applications is through an application launcher like dmenu or rofi
wofi is a wayland clone of rofi. They do the same thing
alr
there is also rofi-wayland which is a fork of rofi but for wayland
rofi-wayland and wofi are pretty similar
wots goin on
Rofi-wayland is gonna be the closest to the original program though
I dont know how to get discord electron to work
When you launch it what happens?
and what error do you get on the terminal?
I dont know how to launch it in the first place
thats the issue
Atops says Im supposed to use the wofi menu
Did you install wofi?
yeah
Have you configured your wofi keybind correctly?
What command do you use to open it?
I believe that wofi needs to be configured to show a specifc mode to show installed applications correctly. Do you see other programs correctly?
Firefox seems to be setup correctly
theres a bunch of other stuff too like regular discord but no electron discord
Electron itself is on the list though
Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Electron just the UI framework discord uses?
it's not an application
alr
it's not something you need to deal with unless you are a developer
just launch the Discord program
Also sorry if theres like infinite questions im just highkey bad
don't worry about it
I have regular discord so is there a way to see if I have the electron one or regular one open?
Regular discord is built using electron
There is no non-electron discord
You mean these?
yeah
why use them, they probably get less updates.
Those are unofficial clients that are linked dynamically to the electron binary
Basically it means that instead of being bundled inside the discord binary like in the official client
it uses a seperate library installed in /usr/lib
that would be nice for an LFS user
it saves up some space if you use multiple electron programs because it doesn't need to be bundled in for every separate program
The application itself is still gonna be called Discord
Nothing changes for the user
Not really that bad, but certainly not something you need in most cases
you can run pacman -Rns discord_arch_electron or whatever package you installed and then run pacman -S discord to install the official package
-Rns will uninstall the package and all unused dependencies
what if I use yay?
both work
yay works too
Wait enumdev your in LFS server lol
yeah
