Thank you
Did you generate a grub config?
yeah
ill send another pic
i tried reinstalling it and i chrooted into it and i ran the command and it says this
Im on the same side as sticzus #quick-questions message
Reinstalling grub and regenerating the config should fix this.
Try reinstalling grub too then. Perhaps something went wrong on that side of things.
how would i reconfigure grub?
i reinstalled a third time and the command line is still there
Try grub-install while chrooted. Then regen the config ```grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Then try rebooting see if it works
can i chroot while in the grub command line
No you need the archiso
normally yes but when youre root it doesnt need.
@tame flower
Sec.
grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=esp --bootloader-id=GRUB
command not found
lsblk isnt found? Uhm what?
lsblk is a base command. If it isnt found theres a serious issue.
can you send me a different arch iso
Not really, but Im really confused why lsblk would fail can you show a picture.
Im not sure how you managed to chroot without lsblk
Seems like youre in the arch iso still thats why grub cant install or mkconfig
says at the end when everything is done installing "would you like to chroot to configure post install"
But does it really do it automatically, knowing arch it probably expects you to do it yourself and simply returns the prompt to you instead of rebooting.
and theres another option that just says reboot
and when i spam the f12 key to go to the boot menu and launch the ubuntu thing it launchs the grub command line idk why it says ubuntu idk if its bc i installed linux mint before or what
Perhaps retry to archinstall Ive used it plenty of times and grub never failed me, if nothing works you'll have to do a manual install.
I know that in the last 2 weeks archinstall may have had issues from what I can read left and right but... its hard to tell without watching you do the whole install process.
ill send you the video that i watched to install it
Install Arch Linux w/ Networking and User Setup today. An easy to follow guide with new to Arch users in mind. We'll go step by step through the Arch Linux install process and go through explanations for everything.
If you get lost or need more information please refer to their documentation: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/installation_gu...
Its really odd that you cant lsblk
Omfg 20 mins for an archinstall using the script?
he went into detail abt it
and what everything does
idk if this changes anything but i installed linux on my other ssd
its a external one
-# (Okay he used direct download and balena etcher ? Im already not feeling this. Pretty sure balena etcher is known as malware last I checked but...)
i used rufus
Okay, well, its funny hes using balena etcher and using sudo when logged as root but beside this the process looked okay.
Like yah he does explain everything pretty well so I dont see why grub fails to boot once youre done installing and rebooting.
(Ive watched it really fast but it looked fine) the archinstall is hand holding enough that its hard to mess up. Least in terms of grub not booting properly
You could try redownloading the iso via torrent make sure archinstall is at latest version too once you boot in the usb but... honestly you may just have to install manually in case archinstall isnt cooperating.
Something might be wrong in your partitioning too but I still find it very alarming that lsblk doesnt work like how can you even install arch or chroot without it.
ill try to install it next time they update it i guess
i did everything the way he said to do it
I think you can force it to update
Idk, when not using the whole partition (or disk I should say) arch install might be fussy
So if youre dual booting mint that could be it. Hard to tell.
I think to update arch install you simply need to pacman -Sy archinstall when you first land into the iso (after connecting to internet obviously)
So retry but right after you succesfully ping google run that command see if it updates then try reinstalling. Be carefull if you use custom partitioning.
Did he perhaps overwritten the arch medizm using the wrong disk and thats the reason lsblk is not working?
I dont know thatd be plausible. Try and downloading the arch iso fresh then and reflash it to usb. Torrent is aways best too instead of direct download.
Good Luck @dusky sparrow
Seems like the arch stick stopped working after the first grub command, indikated by the printed ext errors
He may have not ran it into a chroot indeed so it borked the key.
Reinstalled and ran this command now it says grub-install: error: failed to get canonical path of esp
@tame flower
also lsblk works now
For a 4090 just go with nvidia proprietary
You reinstalled but did grub really needed to be installed at the end?
is there a way to test if grub is there without actually trying to boot into the os cuz if it aint ima have to reinstall again
Like when archinstall finish, it asks you if you want to chroot, you did no, removed the key and rebooted and grub failed to boot into the freahly installed arch?
i did yes this time
oh i see what you mean
yeah when i do that it boots me into the command line
Grub may have been installed properly with the script... Did you try to boot into freshly installed arch before trying to reinstall grub? Also Arch doesnt actually chroot you automatically you need to chroot yourself.
it said i was when i typed the command reboot it said "in chroot: command ignored"
Ah great, my bad then
reinstalled the iso too
And while in chroot reinstalling grub didnt work it complained about uhm... canonical path of esp?
yep
Did you try simply grub-install? Too?
it said efi path not found
It probably complained about not specifying the esp path like it did before
Ok..
Hmm... Is mint still installed?
nope
Did you "Use disk as best effort" when partitioning?
only got windows
ye
Oh theres windows too?
yeah i got windows on my main drive and trying to get linux on my external drive
Oh.. hmm. Perhaps grub isnt liking this. Im sorry but I havent dual boot windows and linux in like 20 years and I havent messed with grub enough to know why its complaining about the esp path
it worked with linux mint perfectly fine
Perhaps check the wiki for insight.
Yeah linux mint or any debian based distro is very friendly to install. Im not surprised. Arch and windows often create issues.
Theres a whole wiki article on this
Perhaps someone else can help you better than me with this. You already learned a lot about the archinstaller so thats a good start.
ok thanks for trying to help me
Also not to discourage you but if you havent daily drived linux for a while perhaps mint is best suited to learn the ropes. I used it for least 2 years before switching to arch permanently.
ok i just wanted to do arch because of the customization
For sure. Keep trying to install it. Im sure if you persevere you will succeed.
Also consider doing a manual install, but you will need to do a lot of reading if you want to use arch.
Anyways, best of luck.
thanks
teknishun received a thank you cookie!
Just for information, trying to install with systemdboot as the bootloader in archinstall may cause less problems.
Because well,… grub likes to cause problems
