I already did that
Bud didn’t respond
Did you reboot
yes,i logged in my profile
Where are you now
So are you just in a TTY?
if tty is a black cmd screen with a login and password then i guess
Login
did
Suprised you didn’t just configure it in the installer
sudo pacman -S plasma kde-applications
And your login was a TTY so you need a display manager
sudo pacman -S sddm
Screenshot or take a photo
was i supposed to connect to wifi
failed retrieving file
goddang it
iwctl
command not found
yes,im texting yall rn
Take a picture
I feel like this is going to be unproductive as hell
i feel like i should just go back to win11 and stfu
Would you want an easier distro
any would do for me
I have two suggestions
-
Deleting your current config and reinstalling BUT properly setting it up
-
Switching to fedora
which option is the best
and the fastest
Both take time
Since you have no clue what you are doing fedora would probably better the better move
If you want to throw yourself to the wolves you can retry again
ill try fedora
Hop back into windows and delete your arch partitions
like the whole linux os
and the usb too
Yup
ok
You’re just gonna flash fedora onto it
You are thrown into a live environment and you have a nice installer
Hop back into windows and lmk when you finished deleting the arch partitions
@woeful ermine why are we moving away from arch?
done,no traces of my failure
Has made it clear that he likes GUI’s and doesn’t want to actually configure the system
yeah i js wanna see a pretty gui
User wants a working system
@upbeat ember this
this
Nothing wrong with it, but probably not best
Search up fedora media writer
pop-os is also good
github?
Yeah
It’s the same path
i use rufus
You wanna grab the ISO instead?
idk
i js wanna do anything, also veno and ruf is the same
but vento got an gui
https://fedoraproject.org/kde/download/
if you’ve used Rufus then this should be familiar
We're so glad you've decided to give Fedora KDE Plasma Desktop a try. We know you'll love it.
Torrent is fine too but dunno if user has an app to do so
This is just more work
I use it myself yes, but you are making this harder
if you want
It’s basically people hosting the ISO themselves
P2P network of people that share it
As I said
this?
yeah
Decentralized downloading is what torrenting is by definition
hold on, torrenting is not piracy
okay
Piracy and torrenting are different
What he’s talking about is JUST the act of downloading via other peers
which in this case is totally legit and legal
Did you finish installing the ISO
firefox > edge
Both are good
you want to dualboot with fedora?
yes
how much space are you going to give fedora?
I picked an easy distro that he can setup and use the ‘puter
He already deleted his arch partitions
He shrunk his drive by 50 gigs
i have 185 gb free space
Change as needed
it says 5 mins
Ait just reply when it’s done
ok
And
done just now
okay
Since you said you have Rufus open it
Select your USB drive, then select the KDE iso
Flash it, then once you’re done boot the USB
mbr or gpt
Leave as default
ok
got a warning that it uses grub 2.12-nonstandard-gdie but the iso file only has grub 2.12
is it alright
Screenshot or photo?
its in russian
So?
okay,1 sec
Doesn’t mean I can’t read it
@empty cargo попробуйте спросить в irc #archlinux-ua
Eh?
I mean we’re almost done
🗿 my Russian sucks but if needed
its my screenshot
????????
😭
Dude I can help him in Russian if it becomes too difficult to follow
@empty cargo for more support in russian

also gravatos is russian
i like to use english as my main language because its easier and has more people that can actually help instead of calling me a newgen
newgen?
i asked some people from russia
they js said newgen
and as i said english is easier
into the iso, yes
okqy
@empty cargo what step are you on?
its installing onto my haed
drive
@empty cargo photo please
Did you already partition it
yes
so after that i just install wine
Huh
to run exe apps
Do you need wine?
did you pick the partition for fedora?
yes
what exe apps?
those are in fedora, no need for those
ok
@empty cargo when you reboot after your done, you will be greeted with a welcome screen, when it asks about third party user repositories, click the checkmark
okay
This was the right choice
??
bind flameshot to printscreen
in konsole
sudo dnf install fastfetch
yes
i dont have prtsc
i use 60%
wait nvm
its fn+u
its a screenshot/record thing
It includes spectacle by default
idk why do i need it
Why the hell do you need flameshot
i dont know
Did you check off that thing?
If it was me just uninstall flameshot
For fedora it’s completely not needed OOB
meh it will stay
@upbeat ember have you used fedora
No point
@empty cargo sudo dnf install fastfetch and screenshot that
brother

its installed
opens when i prtsc
@empty cargo did you enable third party repositories?
yes
why does it matter thi
tho
good, first thing you should do is update your system
it allows you to get apps
oh
point release distro so much like arch, it has updates that come out as time goes on
proprietary software and/or software not maintained by fedora themselves
sudo dnf update
okay
sudo dnf upgrade should also work but it has been mostly combined
techincally update has been depreciated but they now do the exact same thing (as of recent releases of fedora)
after that, reboot
why does my cursor get bigger if i move my mouse fast
so now i mainly use konsole to install apps
discover app
the terminal, yes
brother
what's wrong with sudo dnf install package
I dont think thats what the user wants

if you think its wrong thats cool
Fedora already includes shit out of the box so that the user doesnt need to run to the terminal
if they wanna do that, sure
at least from what I understand @empty cargo doesnt really use linux or have experience with it
easier to just get them setup with flatpaks and have them install apps an easy way
the point of switching over wasn't to just have them vomit shit in a terminal
it was to make the end user experience easier
I started using this shit, and it is a lot easier to get used to then copy pasting shit into a terminal
i like ts thing
faster than win
did you dnf install kitty or use the flatpak?
im on arch
but kitty I have on my laptop using dnf
konsole is great so I dont really see a reason to swap over
enjoy
if you dont like how it looks, play around with the editor to get it how you want it to look
system settings app functions a lot like the windows app (in how you configure things) so if you dont like something, see if you can change it there
@empty cargo can I mark this a solved?
@empty cargo ig last note for final prep, if you dont wanna run sudo dnf upgrade then just click "check for updates" in discover
theres much theme apps on the internet and discover
sure
update tool works the exact same
okay
its a tad slower than just running the command but functions great
[solved] installing plasma
yeah its great
thanks guys
im already in the damn server
if they want to join, sure
but its not strictly needed
plenty of fedora users are active in this community
that was not for you
the above was to continue this discussion in #tech-general
