#Failed libxml2 update killed my Arch

A few weeks ago, a libxml2 update failed, leaving my Arch system unbootable.
It will go through the boot process, but just before it would enter into graphical interface, it gets stuck in a loop that stops it from completing.
I can access the file system by plugging the disk into a different computer, and I have saved most of my Documents, Music and Videos.

Is there a way to rescue my Arch? Maybe there is a way to change a config file to force it to boot into a minimal terminal mode? If I could do that, I might be able to update it to make it work again.
I can easily reinstall the Arch OS, but I would like to be able to repair it, and get it going again if at all possible.

Or chroot and reinstall all packages

#

A update shouldn't "fail" instead it should just fail by exiting without doing the update

but your databases will be updated
