@empty girder how old is the iso?
@empty girder laptop or desktop?
laptop
it is a surface laptop 1
im aware of the additional kernels necessary for this hardware once installed but ive never had problems connect during installation
@empty girder is secureboot/fastboot on?
no
@empty girder can you show every bios setting please
turn off tpm
turned off booting with usb now
"station wlan0 show" still displays "no ip addresses" and "is DHCP client configured?"
in the iso?
photo please
is your wifi card up?
i am not really experienced but that came to my mind
post the output of ip link
@empty girder
how about rfkill
rfkill wlan0?
no just rfkill
that interesting
have you done everything like here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Iwd#iwctl
yup
i can go through the steps and send results
but thats how i got to forever connecting with no ip addresses
ive tried the wsc attempt too but no luck there
if you don't mind
sure
needed to restart it cause "Operation already in progress" from the forever connecting
this your first time rebooting or you tried it already?
i suppose you verified the signature
but theres no way youd get unlucky that many times
i believe so
the terminal when checking signature gave me the thumbs up following arch wiki
I mean it should show you something signature good by pierre schmitz
but it not that for sure
i guess ill try another source and see if i really have been that unlucky
you downloading it through http window or? try through a torrent client
http window
im unfamiliar with torrent clients
and im etching it on with gnome built in tool
if you dont want through torrent client try the https
@empty girder
yes
and maybe gnome tool has something to do with it
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/USB_flash_installation_medium
so try through cli
but I just have a feel that it is none of those and that issue is somewhere else
would balena be a good alternative?
alright, ill use cli
let me know how it goes
struggling to find an iso with good signature 3 failed
when verifying?
yes
can you post a picture
i am not entirely sure what is going on, it should look like this:
❯ pacman-key -v archlinux-2025.05.01-x86_64.iso.sig
==> Checking archlinux-2025.05.01-x86_64.iso.sig... (detached)
gpg: Signature made Thu 01 May 2025 12:12:01 PM CEST
gpg: using EDDSA key 3E80CA1A8B89F69CBA57D98A76A5EF9054449A5C
gpg: issuer "[email protected]"
gpg: Note: trustdb not writable
gpg: Good signature from "Pierre Schmitz <[email protected]>" [full]
gpg: aka "Pierre Schmitz <[email protected]>" [unknown]
I have in the past but this time has been a lot of fails
i gotta workout but ill try to help as much as I can through phone
I was previously in america and now europe i dont know if the servers are different enough
cheers
try now and let me know what happens
no worries
i was wrong ofc it was not simple enough, i scurried to gnome gui and have etched and am booting the usb hoping fingers crossed is enough for wifi to work
damn, still the same
see if it is installed in live env first
what do you mean?
if there is even network manager in live environment
like pacman -Qs network
2 warnings saying database file for core and extra do not exist
lscpi -k
see what is assigned for your wifi card
you can also try to connect again
and stop it and see in journal what is going on
that might give us kore leads
ok, I assume my wifi card is the Ethernet controller, i found it
just put here for note
the wifi card never stops connecting once attempted, ill try to stop it
where would i find the journal
its journalctl
ive stopped the wifi card btw
i jusr dont know the flag on top of my head
oh thats a lot
you might want to find that the flag on the internet that shows only the last lines of a journal
ah ok
or open it in batch format then go all the way down
i recommend you opening a ticket on arch forum though
they are far more experienced than us
youd get help really fast
hmm ok
you dual booting?
no on that device no
im willing to try still though
yeah im glad to see im atleast not missing something
just try to dig something up in the journal
rly?
open as in?
i can get by on vim
yes every country it looks like
it should say there when the list was generated or something
2025-03-11
nvm i am tripping
the reflector thing in journal is normal
because you dont have internet access
facepalm
systemctl status iwd
operation already in progress
and go journal -n 100
to see last 100 lines in journal
see if it says anything there
i really have a hard time believing that it has anything to do with arch installation
when you were booting into a live environment
did you see anything out of ordinary in boot msgs
no everything is fine when booting normally
ill fiddly with the bios and see if i can get anything to show
you can try systemctl restart iwd.service
in case it is not starting correctly for whatever reason
you have secure boot on?
no it shouldnt be
not sure
ive just done something
ive enable NetworkConfigurationEnabled
for iwd
maybe if i can give it the ip i can get wifi and just get it installed
wdym
this is the step before the connect to the network
oh ok ill check that when back in iso
you sure it might not be something wrong with the router?
not particularly
maybe try installing ubuntu and see if things work
but im not sure what to change on the router for the linux
mainly wifi
oh well i have a version of linux running on the laptop and that has internet no problem
just the iso thing
same laptop?
so you are dual booting?
i mean it doesn't make a difference if you do or no for this issue
no the intention is to replace with arch
and theres only one operating system installed right now
when you ping archlinux.org no internet?
in iso yeah
i do not understand hwo can an ethernet controller be for wifi
give me the whole output of lspci
would you mind opening the other linux
and running lspci there
the Ethenet controller is fishy
it might be misidentified
ok
it should be Network Controller
but again when you run ip link you have wlan0
which is confusing really
how about lspci -k
to check the kernel drivers foe it
this is most interestinf
you owe me the solution when you find it haha
honestly thinkin of finding the laptop original os rebuilding then going to install arch and see if that magically fixes it
for now its late so i think im gonna set it up attempting to connect and post something on the forums
if this doesnt get closed by the time i fix it ill say what i did
forum is your best friend
cause its worked before so itll work again
sorry of not being of help but we tried
no worries
send me the link of the form ticket when you create one
for sure
funny thing is once i get arch working i intend to do hyprland ricing so no end of troubleshooting for me
ahhahahahah
you have a long way to go my friend : )
the issue that you are dealing with here
is 1/1 something obvious that we are missing
figured it out @empty girder ?
I have not, I’m attempting to see if downloading windows, letting it fix all the surface laptop firmware then going back for an arch installation again
I have finally fixed it
it was in fact something to do with the goddamn router
I simply reset it, something that I thought had happened during, but this time it works
I am finally installing arch, after 2 days of agony
idk how to close this
