#[SOLVED] Dual booting arch with mint, grub not finding arch

Can't get grub to recognize arch

On mint I did the following:
Made a 500gb free space on my SSD trough resizing partitions.

Using arch-install script I did:

"manually" made a new btrfs FS with all the recommended sub volumes except @.snapshots, as I want to use timeshift

gave the pre-existing boot partition of mint (grub) the mount point /boot

Did everything else according to the recommended settings

Everything installed successfully, but grub can't seem to find arch, I'm only able to boot into mint

Running sudo update-grub doesn't add a boot entry for arch
running sudo os-prober gives no output

#

When I don't mount mint's boot partition as /boot I get a second install of grub from which I'm able to boot arch, but that is not able to see mint, neither is mint's grub able to see arch in that constellation

#

I don't want to be stuck choosing what os to boot to in the bios

grub that comes with mint cant see arch, and grub that gets installed with arch cant see mint

agile sorrel
#

run sudo os-prober

#

photo of that please

vestal zinc
#

empty output, in mint at least

agile sorrel
#

@vestal zinc do it in arch

#

arch-install script

#

Burned iso on a known good USB with whatever utility mint has for it

#

Trying to to see if I can get into mint still

#

....and I can't get into mint

#

After activating os-prober in grub config and it saying in the terminal that it added an entry for mint.... It didn't

vestal zinc
#

I'm confused AF now

agile sorrel
#

@vestal zinc if you set a theme does it see it?

vestal zinc
#

Lemme see....

#

....the grub theme didn't apply either

Yorha 4k version

agile sorrel
#

@vestal zinc show me /boot/grub/themes

vestal zinc
#

Sorry, but I'll need to continue this tomorrow
It just passed midnight over here, at least I can access mint if needed trough a boot override in my bios for now

agile sorrel
#

@vestal zinc try a different theme

vestal zinc
#

and i feel stupid

agile sorrel
#

@vestal zinc say how you fixed it

vestal zinc
#

spot the difference between the two commands:
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub.cfg
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

#

i basically pushed the updated grub.cfg into the parent directory

#

fml

#

first comand is waht i kept doing, second line is correct thing i shouldve been doing

#

...doesnt explain why the grub that mint installed still doesnt see arch, as mint has a script that requires no inputs to update grub with os-prober enabled by default

agile sorrel
#

... solved
