...struggling to determine if this is even arch's fault or if my wifi's just being squirrelly - iwctl and networkmanager can both see my wifi network just fine, but neither seems capable of connecting to it.

iwctl returns
Operation Failed
at most a second or two (but often instantly) after i put in the password, but networkmanager says
Could not activate connection: Activation failed: The Wi-Fi network could not be found
even while both actively show the network as visible.

the password is definitely correct and the mac is whitelisted. what's throwing me off is that it connects to my phone hotspot without issue, and my phone's currently just acting as a repeater for my wifi. so it'll connect to my wifi through my phone, but not directly. both are outputting on the 5ghz band, and again, it's seeing the network in the first place and prompting me for the login so that's got nothing to do with it. i imagine, anyway.

like i said, i can't even tell if this is arch's fault or not, but everything else works on my wifi just fine, so... what is going on here??

#

it's worth noting it says that sometimes when connecting to my phone hotspot too. the difference is, for my hotspot even if it says network couldn't be found, it DOES connect anyway and ping/pacman/everything else works fine

#

so it can throw the same error messages even though it is or isn't connecting and i have almost no actually specific info to diagnose the issue with

#

is this a known thing?? or is my install just haunted

#

iwctl also does this odd thing while i'm typing in the password sometimes where it says "operation aborted" and cuts me off 🤔

#

aaaaand now i'm even more lost

#

what happens if youre closer to the router

radiant hill
#

i'm like 5 feet from the router

raven condor
#

oh

#

might be your network card too

#

lot of them are iffy on linux

radiant hill
#

it shows everything at 1bar idk why

radiant hill
#

i am unsure how to go about dealing with that

raven condor
#

which card do you have

radiant hill
#

that took a second to find 💀

#

ok hang on i got inxi

raven condor
#

I'm sorry but that doesn't say which card it is

#

run lspci | grep -i network

rtl8852ce squint

#

i mean... it shows the driver's there though

raven condor
#

hmm

#

that should be fine

radiant hill
#

which is a step further than most ppl i see having issues with this and linux

#

realtek was notoriously horrible in the past but i think its better now

#

idk whats wrong but you can try forgetting the network and reconnecting/power cycling the router as basic steps i guess but tbh it looks like a driver or hardware issue that all the networks are picked up as 1 bar

yeeeeaaaahhh

#

i really have no idea lol

#

i installed like a week ago and it's been this way the whole time

#

i can just keep using my phone as a repeater, it's just inconvenient

#

and it doesn't make sense why it's being so picky

#

i've already reset the router and the laptop several times, to basically no effect

#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

i'm kinda just banking on the idea that maybe once i get kde or whatever set up that its wifi tool just magically works instead for god knows what reason
