@warm widget iwctl
station wlan0 connect "namehere"
exit
ping -c3 archlinux.org
iwctl command not found, it says
should I reboot into the arch iso and try there?
how did you install arch?
iwctl works in the arch iso
I don't want to rush you but do you have any ideas @echo terrace?
I think reinstalling is my best bet here
@warm widget
@warm widget manual or archinstall?
manual
@warm widget did you pacstrap networkmanager/iw/d ?
networkmanager
just networkmanager if that's what you mean
it says NetworkManager is active when I run systemctl status NetworkManager
@warm widget nmtui
yes
you're welcome
@warm widget I wouldn't recommended using a wm for my first use of a wm in arch, I would recommended using a de to get to know arch a little bit better, then use a wm
... solved
#9742 ๐ฃ If there is nothing else that we can do for you, please close this thread by adding "[SOLVED]" to the title.
- You can do this on desktop by clicking the three dots on the top right of the page, and pressing "Edit Post".
- You can also do this on Android / iOS by long tapping your post in the text channel list, and tapping "Edit Post".
Your title should be like so: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/503224329191030787/1039841700417384498/image.png
Thank you
@warm widget
I was unable to use anything network related even though networkmanager was enabled. iwctl wasn't working either. running nmtui and activating a wifi connection fixed the issue.
@warm widget
I disagree. If you have a lot of experience with the WM in question it can be fine imo
I'm at a point where I have all display managers with me lmao, Wayland, i3, hyprland and will soon explore more haha
Hyprland looks clean af but Wayland just feels home yk
none of those are display managers
Wayland iirc is called a display protocol
I3 is a window manager that runs on X11
Hyprland is a wayland based standalone compositor
(SOLVED) Just finished first installation, can't use pacman
Ohh wow i thought i3 and hyprland are basically the same thing haha
I mean, they kinda are
I3 though is JUST the window manager, you've gotta add a compositor, background tool, and all your apps
Hyprland (and all wayland "wm's") is both the compositor and window manager (can't separate)
both are tiling though so Shrug_
If only thing you need is tiling then doesn't kde plasma has kwin script for khronkite that automatically tiles windows ?
Yes, BUT, being able to choose absolutely everything that makes up your desktop is the point of standalone WM's
Fair enough !
I've been loving hyprland, I'm using the M4LW config and learning more about everything
Nice!! I do think you should know though that the creator of hyprland is a pedophile. Not only that but the codebase apparently sucks. If it works for you though thats fine. If you ever want to switch from it I'd recommend these:
Sway (wayland)
BSPWM (X11)
I3 (Sway bux X11)
Xmonad (X11)
All of these are fantastic Tiling window managers
I've used i3 on and off for years and still love it, though currently running BSPWM and loving it
Bro didn't had to pull the pedophile card ๐ญ๐
Can you tell me more about bspwm?
Maybe some tutorials?
I'm still a very beginner in Linux let alone these wm so I don't really know alot haha
... hyprland

This is a full link list about all the controversy surrounding the maintainers of hyprland.

Okay so I will say this about BSPWM:
It is VERY minimal in comparison to even other WM's.
It doesn't even manage keybinds by itself.
It's a leaf-style tiling wm which is more like Hyprland than i3 or sway lol.
As for tutorials, I'd read the Arch Wiki page on BSPWM first, and the IntrepidPig doc is good too
.aw bspwm
Thanks !!
TWM best WM received a thank you cookie!
the channel Distrotube also has many great tutorials for specific tiling wm's, but most of it applies to any tiling wm. He also has one hour long video about tiling wm's
For over month now, I have been living in Bspwm. You guys know that I had been living in XMonad mostly for the last couple of years, and Bspwm is quite a bit different than XMonad. So...how am I getting along with Bspwm?

I see, I'll check them out
nice, have fun!
awesome
Awesome is very nice too, and I feel it's quite unique
I prefer the tiling modes over the floating modes personally
Clean
Will do i wanna install all of these hahaha
Fair lol, playing with window managers is very fun
I3, sway, dpswn, hyprland everything lol
It fr is, I even installed my main game dev engine in Linux and so far it's working which is surprising
Because I wasn't expecting it to work without any issues but for some reason, it is ?
Crazy stuff
I've been loving linux so far and using wm like hyprland that was pre-configed only made it better
btw, if you want a nice app launcher, you should try rofi
it's unrelated but I just really like rofi
This was without any wm, kde plasma with khronkite
My app launcher is the one that M4LW guy provides, it's very sleek haha
this isn't hyprland
But for some reason khronkite never tiled brave browser and discord so it kind of got annoying
Yes ik, it isn't, it was kde plasma with khronkite like I mentioned
I should install kronkhite on my arch steam deck
This is my hyprland set-up
Dam fr ๐ญ๐ญ
It was this guy whose tutorial I followed
In this video, I guide you through the step-by-step process of installing the Hyprland tiling window manager on Arch Linux-based distributions by using the ML4W Dotfiles 2.9.5, which come with an easy-to-use installation script and provide a highly customizable user experience.
๐ ML4W Dotfiles for Hyprland: https://github.com/mylinuxforwork/dot...
you shouldn't take someones dots, you don't know how to use it then
Ik, I'm still learning so yk...only option ? The whole thing is a bit complex
If it's too complex for you, and you dont wanna spend time on it, it isn't for you.
Orr maybe you can not be an ass and discourage new users from using the damn thing
I'm not, I'm just telling you if you don't want to read documentation, you should look into non-diy distros, if you use these scripts that are often outdated, you WILL encounter issues.
I will, and I'll try to learn from the whole thing, the worst that will happen is that I'll break my system, Idc if I lose all my data lmao
The worst is malware
I have literally nothing on this laptop
The hyprland wiki is quite good, I recommend you look through it, if you have problems, ask here or in the Hyprland Discord.
Will do, thanks for the info, I did look into the documentation btw, I got overwhelmed by it
hybridkernel received a thank you cookie!
Yes that's fair, the find feature on your browser and the tree on the side help a lot!
