I am currently having the issue where my laptop is just stuck at a black screen after the bootloader. All I see at the top left of the screen is “_”. My laptop is dual booted, with Arch Linux and Windows, although Windows works perfectly fine. I’ve done quite a bit of research and tried everything I know to fix this, but I am having no luck.

send ur boot parameters in ur bootloader
Alright I will
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 quiet nvidia-drm.modeset=1 nvidia_drm.fbdev=1"
@split plinth
well these are not ur boot params but its ok
remove loglevel and quiet and boot
so u can see whats happening
It’s been like that
Mk
What will it change
@split plinth
I did what you told me to remove, yet all I see is just this
I do not see any messages of some kind
All I see is this
U need to regenerate grub config before
That’s what I did
I regenerated the grub config
If you don't mind me asking, how good are you with sddm?
@fathom orbit
@solid pebble what de/wm are you on?
KDE (X11)
try wayland
I have
How this happened in the first place was because I went into the boot config
@solid pebble remove those nvidia kernel params
and switch to the nvidia-open packages
How would I do that?
pacman -S nvidia-open
remove those kernel params
From here?
yes
Wouldn't it just be this then?
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="loglevel=3 quiet"
yes
alright then
Imma do this tmmrw at school and I'll get back to you with the results
Ok I installed this
And changed it to this
what kernel are you using?
6.11.3-arch1-1
now reboot
I am still getting the black screen
try the lts kernel
What is lts?
Oh I see
Wayland works but X11 doesn’t
Also I don’t think nvidia open installed…
I get the same error
remove the lock
How would I remove it?
sudo pacman -Syu, then reboot
update, then try to install the packages
That’s what I’m currently doing
But its failing to update right now
So now I’m updating again
Ok I was able to install nvidia-open
With no issues
Didn’t do anything though
I’ve tried loading X11 with and without the sddm
But I still get the same issue
So I can’t load the x server
