Hello, I am new to linux and decided to install arch with hyprland, everything seems to work exept for one thing wich is whenever I boot up my pc, i have this login page, wich works but i have tried to install hyprlock and after installing it, the lockscreen also works, but when i reboot or log out, i now i have 2 lock screens, the one in the pic and the hyprlock one, if someone could explain me how to get rid of this one or what it is linked to? Because typing my password 2 times is annoying, and also the default lockscreen isnt aesthetic
Thanks

this is ly, a display manager. it lets you pick which session to start. its like a password prompt that appears BEFORE you start a desktop (in your case, hyprland).
lockscreen is just that, a lockscreen, it runs INSIDE of your session and is launched BY it.
if you're having issues with typing in your password twice, thats a misconfiguration of your hyprlock
This is not a lock screen this is a display manager and without this you will only boot into tty and there you will have to type your username and password then you will have to run hyprland there so do you prefer that or this?
And if you want a good looking display manager try sddm and theme it
yeah
is there a way to skip that or nah?
Pam autologin
yeah ig so
don't use autologin
i'll try sddm like @limpid saddle advised me
ik its less secure but 😔
it's your hyprlock config that runs on startup ask in hyprland there is a way to not run it on startup only after the pc goes to sleep
or you can tell me how did you setup the hyprlock I can look up something
like the conf file?
i deleted rn cuz it was annoying
i just use ly since i dont wanna log in twice
its just the ly log in that i wanna skip, so the only thing askip for log in would be hyprlock
maybe if i enable autologin hyprlock would still ask for my password
ok if you don't have any other use for hyprlock then there is no need for it
just keep a display manager
i will
@hard blade who's dot's did you take?
wym
@hard blade you installed arch with hyprland, what script did you use?
archinstall
when you choose ur DE hyprland is already there
that's all you did?
ye
I wouldn't recommended using a wm for my first use of a wm in arch, I would recommended using a de to get to know arch a little bit better, then use a wm
is it bad? 😭
i dont like de
i started using linux for a week
i used kde on debian, cinnamon on mint and gnome on fedora
i didnt liked any of them
try xfce
it looks outdated
using a wm isnt that hard tbh
de feels too handholding
it is for beginners
true but i like learning
i've learned way more in a single day with arch and hyprland
than with gnome on fedora
cuz with a de i only use gui
@hard blade I wouldn't recommended using hyprland for my first use of a wm in arch, I would recommended using i3 or awesome to get to know a wm's a little bit better, then use a hyprland
what about dwm
is it good?
same as hyprland, not for beginners
damn
hyprland feels good for now tho
if i get a problem i'll just install gnome back
but hyprland doesnt seems that hard
do you have a bar with a app launcher?
idk bro i3 seems hard
it's not that hard
that is not a bar
hyprland have a big community tho, much easier to find help
can't use awesome without knowing scripting
I never needed to know about lua
@hard blade this is a bar
OHH
this wait
lemme find the name i forgor
waybar
yeah
