#Gnome apparently broke the extension stuff

So, Gnome. We all know that most of its customisation is based on extensions, right?

Yesterday my Gnome started behaving rather weird. Picture this: you lock your computer to, idk, take a nap, you wake up, you unlock your computer and all of your extensions are just gone. Well, not like gone gone, but they don't affect your system in any way you expect them to?

Yeah. Apparently, Gnome disables all of its extensions when you lock the screen. That explains the hiccups when I lock and unlock the screen, actually. The issue is, it stopped enabling them back. I have no idea why it started happening, and why it started happening yesterday, but I've ran sudo pacman -Syu 16 times since then due to some other stuff, reinstalled all of my packages (including some extensions) twice, and nothing changed.

-# gnome devs not break anything challenge (impossible)

#

how much do you think will change

#

my live wallpaper might pop in but thats it

#

tho i will try for the sake of it

#

gnome xorg does not start

#

as per usual

#

and actually locks me out of every other option until a reboot

#

yes, most likely

#

i mean xfce is perfectly fine

drifting heron
#

sometimes after unlocking some extensions still work fine, like dash to dock and transparent status bar on this image

#

you may have however noticed that the status bar is also empty

#

and dash to dock actively ignores apps that are not pinned, but open

most of my extensions dont even claim to support 47 yet

#

dash to dock is like the only one that does

#

and i actively rely on Unite, Just Perfection and other stuff for my workflow

#

it seems that the statusbar stuff is still there if i inspect it with looking glass, it just does not work

#

not even the keycombos for notifications/quick settings

#

so yeah, its considerably fucked

#

i like how all of my tech sometimes goes from "wow this works so good omg" to "holy fuck this is so broken its literally unusable" at world record pace

drifting heron
#

even in relatively non-broken state, gnome's dash ignores non-pinned open apps

#

where steam
