arch is working fine 3 hours ago until i booted up the computer now here is what i observed

  • screen goes on and off at the bootloader when i plug video into video card, its in a loop
  • plug video into mobo and its a blinking cursor
  • lts and fallback doesnt solve the issue
  • cant switch tty
  • services seem to be working as i can read the cpu usage and temperature off my cpu cooler
#

the last thing i did when it was working was run my own python scripts and play osu with wine

#

this is my live os rn its kind of annoying, this shouldnt be happening

#

mounted home and root directory successfully

What gpu do u have?

dusty rock
balmy wedge
#

are u using nvidia propietary drivers?

#

are u using a display manager to launch some de?

dusty rock
#

i think so?

#

i followed this

dusty rock
#

until i just googled now

dusty rock
#

just a guess but

#
Option B) For systemd-boot users
Navigate to the bootloader entries directory: cd /boot/loader/entries/
Edit the appropriate .conf file for your Arch Linux boot entry
sudo nano <filename>.conf
Append nvidia-drm.modeset=1 to the options line

i did this for all my bootloader entries

#

if nvidia is the issue then how do i reverse this

#

where do i find the entries

balmy wedge
#

did u use archinstall?

dusty rock
#

balmy wedge
#

oh god

#

did u select some kind of graphic environment

#

such as plasma, gnome, etc

dusty rock
balmy wedge
#

Alright so

#

Get into a tty please

#

And exec: systemctl --type=service

dusty rock
balmy wedge
#

about the nvidia drm option, it is not neccesary at all, u can try removing it to see if it works

#

apart from that, i am thinking that some displaymanager is causing the issue

#

can u try doing this: sudo pacman -Q | grep sddm

dusty rock
#

or do i chroot from live iso, will that work?

balmy wedge
#

Yes

dusty rock
#

all these audit messages are driving me nuts

dusty rock
#

ok i am able to get a tty now but its only on lts

#

the only failed here

#

guess i never knew what dm i used

#

now i know

#

wait now that i think about it i might have done something that broke this

#

lightdm rings a bell

balmy wedge
#

ok i guessed it was sddm but it was lightdm

#

no problem

#

so u probably have that black screen caused by lightdm failing

#

try to disable it for now, then enter xfce manually with xinit and then we will try to solve the issue if wanted

dusty rock
#

this was a stupid action

#

1 thing needed imagemagick and i think it might be lightdm

#

or am i tripping

#

it was working for 3 days after

dusty rock
#

disabled lightdm with systemctl

dusty rock
#

GOD BLESS

#

this has been the worst 26 hours of my life

#

kept worrying about my precious computer at work today
