#

so

#

whats your gpu

random kraken
#

amd radeon

#

laptop to be specific

plush whale
#

which exact one

#

i think you can see the model by checking lspci

random kraken
#

5300u I think

#

ok hold on then

#

uhh

#

cant find it

plush whale
#

it should show up as something similar to this

#

something with VGA or HDMI or whatever

crimson plaza
#

I would recommend installing auto-cpufreq, it's an automatic CPU speed and power optimizer for Linux based on active monitoring of laptop's battery state, CPU usage, CPU temperature and system load

random kraken
#

I might try doing archinstall again

crimson plaza
#

@random kraken don't

random kraken
#

why

plush whale
#

you dont need to

#

unless your current install does not have any internet stuff installed (if you can run nmcli, it has everything you'll need)

random kraken
#

k gimme two to chroot

plush whale
#

why

#

just boot the system normally

random kraken
#

for easier internet

plush whale
#

networkmanager makes the internet as easy as it gets

random kraken
#

in chroot

#

what do I do anyway?

plush whale
#

reboot back into your system

random kraken
#

Im already in chroot

plush whale
#

actually you should probably insure you have networkmanager installed

#

do you?

plush whale
#

good

random kraken
#

I know I do

plush whale
#

then get OUT of the chroot and reboot back into your god damn system

random kraken
#

cant I do everything I need to in chroot anyway?

#

just curious

plush whale
#

theres NO need to chroot every single fucking time, the chroot is there mainly for the cases where you cant boot the system

plush whale
random kraken
#

fineee

crimson plaza
plush whale
#

or systemd services

random kraken
#

ok I get ur point :3

#

in system

#

wat now

crimson plaza
#

@random kraken pacman -S neofetch

#

pacman -S flameshot

#

bind flameshot to print screen

random kraken
#

uhh

crimson plaza
#

then take a photo of neofetch

random kraken
#

how to connect to internet first

plush whale
#

we dont have graphics yet, tofu

plush whale
random kraken
#

weird

#

no contact with network manager

#

I selected it in archinstall tho

plush whale
#

did you systemctl enable --now NetworkManager? ever?

crimson plaza
#

iwctl

plush whale
#

case sensitive

random kraken
#

failed to connect to bus: connection refused

#

oh hold on then

#

nope

#

same thing

plush whale
#

are you still in chroot

random kraken
#

no

plush whale
#

weird

random kraken
#

archinstall tiem

#

cuz without internet

#

nothing will go anywhere

plush whale
#

do a manual install

random kraken
#

yuck but ok

plush whale
#

it seems using archinstall breaks things

#

as it does in 80% of scenarios

random kraken
#

I need to do homework 😭

plush whale
#

you were the one to pick arch over something like endeavouros or fedora

#

arch requires effort

crimson plaza
#

pop-os does not

#

fyi, this is a chromebook

plush whale
#

pop-os is also arguably garbage, so

random kraken
#

Ik but I used archinstall last time and it worked flawlessly

plush whale
random kraken
plush whale
random kraken
#

im using an hp laptop if your talking about me

plush whale
#

and fix some other things

random kraken
#

Arch wiki has too much text

crimson plaza
#

@random kraken is this in a chromebook?

random kraken
#

no

plush whale
#

anyway, you'll need amdgpu, add it to the pile of packages you're going to be installing

random kraken
#

I installed manjaro on a chromebook

#

and my laptop

#

if your going off that message I sent awhile ago

plush whale
#

do you really need this to be specifically arch

random kraken
#

yes

#

because arch logo

plush whale
#

what for

#

ok but you can just change it

random kraken
plush whale
#

fair enough

#

start reading the wiki then

random kraken
#

should I use systemd or grub

crimson plaza
#

also the Arch Linux community does not offer support for the information contained in videos; for installation procedures, the Installation guide is the only officially supported document. The content in the videos may be out of date or inaccurate

random kraken
#

and how would I customize either?

crimson plaza
random kraken
#

graphically

plush whale
#

grub has themes and shit

random kraken
#

like adding pictures n stuff

crimson plaza
random kraken
plush whale
#

by changing the theme in /etc/default/grub or something

#

i have this theme on my laptop currently

random kraken
plush whale
#

this is grub

random kraken
#

how'd you customize it?

crimson plaza
plush whale
#

i threw in a theme into /boot/grub/themes and set the theme to the right one in /etc/default/grub

random kraken
#

gonna use tiny11 ofc

#

only running 1 game on windows anyway so

crimson plaza
# random kraken gonna use tiny11 ofc

The problem With custom ISOs is that you are 100% dependent on the ISO provider and are sometimes even prohibited from changing settings within the OS yourself. Even worse, there is also the possibility of preinstalled malware like keyloggers or reverse shells for botnets. Distributing modified versions of Windows is illegal and can net some serious jail time. You can decide for yourself if someone is willing to break the law just for people to only get a "clean" version of Windows. But don't complain if your credentials get stolen.

random kraken
#

its the smallest image available so

#

ofc I'll still make sure I'm not getting malware

crimson plaza
random kraken
#

but effort

#

im a lazy lil goober

crimson plaza
random kraken
#

and once again

#

I'll make sure there's no malware

crimson plaza
#

it's your pc

random kraken
#

I used open source last time I installed

#

this time I'm installing with just amd like usual

#

ok so this is strange

#

reinstalled right?

#

same exact issue

crimson plaza
#

@random kraken photo please

random kraken
#

how

#

I dont have a camera app on manjaro but

#

it says

#

Failed to connect to bus

#

Connection refused

#

for network manager

crimson plaza
#

iwctl

#

station wlan0 connect "network name"

random kraken
#

waiting for IWD to start...

#

think its stuck

#

canceled it

crimson plaza
#

@random kraken systemctl enable --now iwd

random kraken
#

same thing as nm

#

running as root fuck it

crimson plaza
#

don't sudo iwctl

random kraken
#

I mean user

crimson plaza
#

iwctl

random kraken
#

exit mb

crimson plaza
#

exit

random kraken
#

stuck again

#

weird

#

arch is being icky

crimson plaza
#

try pop-os instead

random kraken
#

I want arch though

#

pop os isnt my thing

crimson plaza
#

endevour os instead

#

arch based

random kraken
#

yeah but at that rate I might aswell just use manjaro

#

which I used before

still thistle
#

I have the same issue as CADKISSER. I wonder if my amd driver is the cause of this

#

Cause I have a 6800XT

random kraken
#

gonna get a later version of the iso

#

I was using one I already had the media for

#

wait

#

this is the latest version

random kraken
#

amd is the best driver for linux imo

still thistle
#

Well. It shouldn’t have broken from me updating my packages either
