#Headphones not detected

PipeWire fails to detect my headphones. They work normally on windows.

My headphones are plugged in via audio Jack. I tried using both the front I/O and hooking it on the back, and neither worked.

I use a dual boot machine, and I have disabled windows’ fast boot. It worked normally until a day before making this post. I also tried using pulseaudio but it also did not work.

System: Arch Linux 64 bit, DWM

PipeWire 1.0.4
Motherboard: Asus Tuf Gaming B460 Pro WiFi

viscid light

I don't have that no

okk

ember oracle
#

and then screenshot and post 'Configuration' tab please

viscid light
#

On the outpute devices there is only this option

ember oracle
#

"Configuration" tab

#

Not "Output Devices"

#

Oh wait

#

Uh

#

restart pipewire?

viscid light
#

how?

ember oracle
#

uhhhhh

novel estuary
#

Are you using wireplumber?

#

If so it should just be systemctl —user restart wireplumber

#

At least, from memory, I’m on mobile right now

viscid light
viscid light
#

systemctl --user restart wireplumber.service
and this

ember oracle
#

see if changed

novel estuary
ember oracle
#

also: does it work in windows

Also, a bluetooth speaker works normally on arch

Do you have pipewire-Jack installed?

viscid light
viscid light
#

Do I install it?

novel estuary
#

Should be in the standard repos

#

.aw pipewire

languid vineBOT
viscid light
#

nvm I had it already installed

#

I reinstalled it

#

What now?

novel estuary
#

Is windows fast boot disabled?

viscid light
#

I'm pretty sure yeah. It worked about a week ago

novel estuary
#

Double check that windows hasn’t turned that back on?

viscid light
#

Check it on the BIOS?

novel estuary
#

No, in windows itself

viscid light
#

okk brb

#

Okay turns out windows had turnt that on

#

But

#

The sound still does not work

novel estuary
#

As in headphones aren’t being registered at all?

viscid light
#

I assume so, because they didn't before

novel estuary
#

What de/wm do you use?

viscid light
#

DWM

novel estuary
#

I’m not overly familiar with that one, does it have options for audio devices built in?

viscid light
#

No

novel estuary
#

@ember oracle any ideas?

ember oracle
#

Uh, unfortunately no

#

My guess was their audio device was shit

#

Shot* Fuck

#

I guessed their controller was shot (dead)

#

(like how my ethernet controller is)

novel estuary
#

@viscid light everything up to date?

ember oracle
#

Uh, stab in the dark:

#

Try temporarily installing a DE

viscid light
ember oracle

so you can have access to a proper sounds panel

ember oracle

stab in the dark

viscid light

fair enough

novel estuary
#

When you installed pipewire, how did you enable it?

viscid light
#

I don't know what else to do. Everything the internet suggested, I had already done

viscid light
novel estuary
#

And audio is fully removed?

viscid light
novel estuary
#

Pulseaudio

novel estuary
#

This doesn’t do anything does it? systemctl --user start pipewire pipewire-pulse

#

Just in case

novel estuary
#

Can you show me systemctl status —user

viscid light
novel estuary
#

And also does anything turn up in:
journalctl -b |grep error

novel estuary
# viscid light

I’m thinking of the wrong command, I want to list the status of all the user slice services

I also have been having major issues with audio devices. I have tried a lot of things. I'm on the zen kernel btw. But installing wireplumber or trying to install pulseaudio doesn't seem to be exactly the right fix. Sometimes when I boot up my system will recognize audio devices, sometimes it will not. I would reccomend unplugging everything from your machine, running sudo pacman -Syu and rebooting the system with nothing plugged into it. Keep rebooting until you have audio devices, then take a snapshot with timemachine. If the compulsive rebooting isn't working try installing pulseaudio or wireplumber.

This is the current state of it for me. I have also taken to not powering down my system but just locking it with ctrl+alt+l so that I don't nuke my sound settings. Good luck.

#

There's not really a solution to my problem then?

covert acorn
#

holy shit you poor soul

viscid light
frigid gate
#

what headphones?

covert acorn
#

Im not really in your situation because I can barely remember how i got pipewire to work, i think it was something like pipewire-pulse pipewire myxer qpwgrash and I have been set ever since

viscid light
covert acorn
#

stab in the dark :
try pulseaudio ???

viscid light
covert acorn
#

shit

#

Do you have any other pair or earbuds, anything lying around that worked ?

viscid light
#

A bluetooth speaker worked normally.

#

A pair of in-ear monitors didn't work

frigid gate
#

they don't connect to bluetooth?

covert acorn
#

That's mega strange I ain't gonna line

viscid light
#

What even is this

#

It just happened one day.

covert acorn
#

I fucking love linux but shit that
"Just happens one day" is so fucking annoying because like
you can pinpoint what changed

viscid light
#

The thing is, it didn't even happen after an update, it just happened.

frigid gate
covert acorn
#

Honestly, man Im sorry i even came in here i can really help you
Last thing i think i would do out of desperation is backup all the configured stuff and try a reinstall
but that's about it

viscid light
frigid gate
#

@viscid light via blueman?

viscid light
#

yes

viscid light
frigid gate
#

pacman -Q bluez-utils

viscid light
frigid gate
#

is that package installed?

#

then install bluetuith

#

then try from bluetuith

viscid light
#

But bluetooth works normally

#

I connected a bluetooth speaker and it worked.

#

Audio jack devices do not work.

frigid gate
#

did you pair it before?

viscid light
#

wdym

frigid gate
#

pair to the computer

viscid light
#

Yeah I had paired it before

frigid gate
#

@viscid light repair it

viscid light
frigid gate
#

yes

viscid light
#

I had paired it again some days ago, when I still had the issue, and it worked normally. I am currently not booted on arch, because I have a class in a little bit.

ember oracle
#

Do you dual boot

#

Let me guess, you pair it with both Windows and Linux?

viscid light
#

But it works fine

#

Bluetooth works normally

#

Why are we getting caught up in the bluetooth?
