#Everything’s Broken

well, you can make it if you dont have one
i can see network is fine, so you can probably even do it from emergency mode directly
so how can i fix the boot
read the error, it says which three mounts failed caused the boot to go to emergency mode
we don't know what these two mounts on the bottom are
do you know
are you booted into the installer
those two are drives that have nothing to do with boot they're just storage @dreamy hare
^
how did u boot into emergency mode
you have to fix the /boot mount so that it mounts correctly
if you try mounting it manually do you get an error
if not, there could be a problem with fstab
@dreamy hare im using the cd i fucked it up
did you install manually previously
naw i used archinstall @dreamy hare
you can fix it by repeating some the steps of the manual install
your filesystems are presumably already formatted so don't format ones that you don't need formatted
mount the disks that you want to be there at boot under /mnt and chroot in
something is broken with the mount of the boot partition
if it's all formatted and you have a working bootloader there then it's likely an fstab issue
yea definitely
use genfstab -U to make it
ight i have to chroot first
command not found
im so serious genfstab: command not found
yes
it wouldn't be there unless you installed it
exit the chroot and run it outside of it
read how it's used in the install guide
is your boot partition mounted under /mnt
I can't see it there
or are you expecting to have a boot partition there
i mounted boot under /boot @dreamy hare
under /mnt/boot?
the install system starts from / and your main system should be mounted using /mnt as the root
meaning your boot partition should be at /mnt/boot
your root at /mnt which it seems to be
etc
no I don't understand the setup in the image you pinged me at
well how do I show u what should I do?
i have these issues when i update all the time
going through a manual install would have probably helped
uhh
you seem to be a bit confused about the chroots and mount paths
ive done 1 manual install before
so right now you're booted into the installed and outside the chroot
possible to fix this install?
I'm not sure what partition layout you're supposed to have which makes this a little difficult
usually it's expected that arch users know what the layout is supposed to be
so let's just go through everything
you have a root partition and a boot partition
anything else?
ykw this is probably why my shit breaks so often, i got no problem w doing a manual install
not gonna reinstall till it breaks tho
archinstall is fine if you know what it's doing
let me check fstab
the problem is that it doesn't teach you how to fix boot problems like a manual install does
i should be able to see it
you know why its not working
LMAO
i used the wrong partition
you were also mounting them to the wrong locations
mount the partitions of your main system such that /mnt is the root
meaning root partition goes on /mnt, boot partition goes on /mnt/boot
etc
show me lsblk when done
What am i missing
@dreamy hare @vagrant kite @dusky sequoia lmk what went wrong on dis one
proc missing suggests the filesystem package wasn't installed correctly
you were able to chroot earlier though which suggests there's something else we should be focusing on
previously when chroot worked you were mounting a completely different disk, sda2
I didn't set up your system so I don't know what partition your root is supposed to be
this system can be fixed without a reinstall if you can just figure out which partitions are supposed to be mounted and where
you've mounted sdc2 under /mnt so you can go there with cd /mnt and list the contents with ls, maybe the contents will help you figure out which is which
if it doesn't look like a root partition then it's not your existing root partition
got you ill look into it and remind you
cant get my partitions to arch chroot even checking both files
I see now whats the issue for this? <@&1038944519921598636> how to solve im saying
wtf
Basically
fucking accident
meant to ping cbtela
ight man goahead n get rid of me
ight ill end this sorry yall
you gotta listen to doja cat while ur trying to fix it then it will work
Y'all should make the role unpingable
what do you think the point of the role is
it's called voice ping for a reason
Well definitely not this point
Pinging a voice ping for support 🤦♂️
if you've developed a psychic discord bot that can revoke ping permissions if it knows the user is misuing it then I'm sure they'd be happy to impliment that
^
Well didn't even edit the messages but whatever
why would he edit the message
wtf
I think that just makes a ghost ping
it still pinged people
yep
I know of a discord that did some fancy stuff and gave you a role only when connected to a vc, maybe you could make the voice ping role pingable only when actively in a VC using that
bro pinged like a shit ton of people
that's a pretty good concept actually
not a bad idea
its a good concept, probs could do it with automod rules
user accidentally pinged voice ping
oh
It will avoid accidents and maybe avoid trolls abusing it to mass ping
yeah
do you guys have custom bots in this server?
Or make it high effort enough that they desist
deleting it after it is sent does nothing
wait
nvm
ok so
add a bot that gives a role to users who are in a vc at that moment. create an automod rule through the discord automod to block messages containing the @ , then make the automod rule bypassable for people with the role
basic thing you could do to resolve this
the automod rule would block something like <@&1038944519921598636>
Can't you just disable the ping, i think normal users cannot ping @ everyone and @ here, like they can, but it does nothing ( no i am not gonna test it live)
fuck you
normal users cant ping @ here and @ everyone
its "voice ping" do this for voice chat pings ffs
Maybe something like that to let the write the thing but the server does not send the ping without a specific role applied to the user
nevermind i retract my previous statement
i dont think thats possible
Ah well, it would have been cool tho
Can You ping me directly in that message if you want so i can see it?
@everyone @here tada it doesnt work
what i was expecting
yeah
Well, time for my sleep deprived ass to go back to bed, as it is 1 in the morning...
that takes away the entire point
if you dont want pings, opt out of the role
¯_(ツ)_/¯
But this person abused it
tell me who is gonna be able to help me w voice pings here
no one
i pressed c instead of v
Oposite
bro pinged the entire active population
to answer the question I can't tell from here why those services are failing to launch, it tells you to look at the service status for more details but we should really figure out the partitions first
if you were on the correct partition and that partition was missing proc and other important folders then that could explain some levels of boot instability
i didnt even know this was possible 💀 @worldly sequoia
I guess the person who runs this server didnt disable it for support channels
@dreamy hare I think the update fucked it, cause those are the right partitions I checked by mounting without chroot
Its just missing proc
which I cant do anything about cause I would have to install it
💀
Can I just close this thread alr
not until the entire @voice ping seeks vengeance

yall keep playing with fire
I think atp im just going to reinstall @dreamy hare probably from scratch
Is it possible to clone my laptop install with a portable hard drive?
its got 4tb
if the filesystem supports unix permissions then you can just use the cp command to copy your home directory without losing permissions
assuming everything important is there
you can fix it from the installer
a reinstall might be a good idea anyways at this point
hm wdym
there is no way to
do you want me to lock it
go ahead im just gonna reinstall using archinstall
i copy pasted the files i needed
kk
