#Fedora screen goes black when pressing reboot button

Hello everyone,
I'm wondering why when I install OS updates that require the system to reboot to apply changes that the screen would go black and nothing will show up (including the menu to change video source) unless I unplug my monitor from the outlet and plug it again to soft reset it.
Then the video source comes back.

I don't know if this is caused by my monitor, driver issues or the distro itself.

I'd be glad if you helped me, thanks!

Likely an issue with the display

#

could be a driver issue

odd coral
#

no that's not driver issue

#

it's happing when reboot

#

something with grub or installation

laptop or desktop ?

worthy inlet
#

Desktop

odd coral
#

ok

odd coral
#

and reboot

worthy inlet
odd coral
#

intel or amd processor?

worthy inlet
#

R5 5600X

odd coral
#

ok

#

you have good hardware

#

and you saying you tried that nvidia gup also

#

and amd drivers will get install while installation only

#

there is only two ways

odd coral

odd coral
#

or manually install amd drivers

odd coral
#

hey @worthy inlet

worthy inlet
#

Unless I can stop the process

#

Is it safe to do?

odd coral
#

run this commands in your terminal

odd coral
worthy inlet
#

So all I do is formatting without erasing and run the Fedora Writer, right?

odd coral
#

sudo dnf update

worthy inlet
#

Did it after installation

odd coral
#

sudo dnf install kernel-devel kernel-headers

#
sudo dnf install https://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm
#

just copy and run this

worthy inlet
odd coral
#

sudo dnf install xorg-x11-drv-amdgpu

#

sudo reboot

worthy inlet
odd coral
#

do all of this

#

in sequence

worthy inlet
#

Doing it

#

So far the kernel one is the one that is working and downloading stuff

odd coral
#

after reboot

#

run this cmd and past the output here

#

glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"

worthy inlet
#

I'll be away for 10 mins, just need to reboot
I'll let you asap, ok?

odd coral
#

k

worthy inlet
odd coral
#

now reboot and check

worthy inlet
#

So far it seems that it worked but I can't tell if it was a case or not

worthy inlet
odd coral
#

yup

worthy inlet
#

Check with the media writer or OpenGL?

odd coral
#

reboot done?

worthy inlet
odd coral
#

check the issues is solved or not

worthy inlet
#

It's gonna be hard cause it doesn't always happen

odd coral
#

i think it's fix now

#

just press the reboot button and check

#

if it's not occuring

#

do it 2-3 times to conform

worthy inlet
#

I'll let the media writer make another ISO with Fedora 39 just to be safe and reboot 5 times for tests and let you know

odd coral
#

ok and make sure you downloade new iso by that software don't try to use already downloaded iso

#

if that error not fix

worthy inlet
#

then it's time to throw the monitor

odd coral
#

that's software problem

#

not a hardware

worthy inlet
#

I have news

#

It didn't work

#

Should I do the check or try the extension setting first?

#

Also, noticed this

#

Tried checking with live ISO and everything was passed

#

Rebooted using the Nvidia setting on GPU profile selector and gave the same issue

#

@odd coral this issue is so strange so far

odd coral
#

So go ahead and install clean os

worthy inlet
#

Clean?

odd coral
#

New

worthy inlet
#

How is that gonna fix the issue? I have done it countless time so far and the issue was never solved tho
