I've downloaded gmod with proton but whenever I run it it just says running for few settings and then crashes
I've tried whats on the Arch wiki but that didnt seem to fix it, any ideas,

#

they provided that linking some symbolic links should fix it, but they are broken

i don't think proton is needed, as garry's mod has a native linux client.

but usually, when a steam game in proton crashes, it's best to try changing which version you're using in the dropdown (right click the game in steam > properties > compatibility > force use of specific steam play compatibility tool). usually i would start from the latest version and go backwards until you find a version that successfully works.

just out of curiousity, what's your graphics card and your desktop environment? personally, i find that games tend to have more issues with an nvidia graphics card
