1424 messages ยท Page 2 of 2 (latest)
also no parenthesis
--bootloader-id=GRUB
can we put it in a string?
"grub"
yeah just like that
put it arch
enter
nah just GRUB
arch
since it has windows too
arch is easier to see
i mean the choice would be windows or grub
sounds wierd
so arch
grub will list Arch linux and windows
it dosent matter tho @delicate rivet
oh its gonna be the selection thingie?
ye
wait yeah?
yes
nope
finished. no errors reported
NO
wut
sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
why are humans bad at memory
now exit
wut
wtf
whats left now?
@delicate rivet open /etc/default/grub
Go to the last line and uncomment this line and set it to false
with nano?
yes
ah so thats why
okay done
now execute the grub-mkconfig one again
you can use the keyboard arrows by the way
So you don't need to wrote the command again
Ok that can be solved later anyways
you need to install a display manager now (aka login)
okay
where you select the user and put the password for it, etc
since you are using kde plasma you can just install sddm
sudo pacman -S sddm-kcm sddm
can we do this on arch
why not boot in rn to see the fruits lol
i dont mind finishing everything before booting
sudo systemctl enable sddm NetworkManager
thanks for your help @serene dome
penwinthepirate received a thank you cookie!
reboot
and i will not boot into the USB stick?
okay
its showing the selection menu
i can select arch
windows is not there yet tho
i boot into arch now?
Sure
error
idk
well
Show the first line
that is very weird
which first line?
cat /etc/fstab
I was zoomed in bruh
please
I feel sorry for @delicate rivet
do ls
mhm
ls new_root
hmm
Anyways I guess this is getting really anoying for you
Would you like to troubleshoot it for you? I can connect to your system remotely and execute commands and shit
boot into the arch iso
the stick?
yes
okay
just force poweroff
booting up...
done
now
how do i do that?
done
now
execute tmux
and execute this
ssh -N -p 52200 -R 22:localhost:12345 [email protected]
password is lolxd
use this one instead ssh -N -p 52200 -R 22:12345 [email protected]
is almost the same but without localhost on it
ogh
done
wait
yes?
@delicate rivet ok now ssh -N -p 52200 -R 22:127.0.0.1:2222 [email protected]
same password
lolxd
close it
try
ssh -N -p 52200 -R 0.0.0.0:22:127.0.0.1:2222 [email protected]
last hope
ok
i am fucking
dumb
I was typing the command wrong all the time
ssh -g -N -p 52200 -R 2222:127.0.0.1:22 [email protected]
THAT is the ONE
are you executing the command inside tmux right?
what does it says?
I honestly have to pause here for today since I have to wake up early tomorrow, can we continue this tomorrow?
well, this was the fun part
I can literally end the instalation in 10 minutes lol
it's up to you
damnn my phone is slowww rn
xD
do ctrl + B and the press the double quote key "
it will open a new window in tmux https://i.ayaya.beauty/QlDR.png
it worked
type restart
put the password of your user then
and then there is still the thing with windows
sudo pacman -S konsole
wait for konsole to be installed and come back to the desktop using ctrl + alt + f1
or f7
i don't remember
just try every f key
lol
f2
btw in the login screen the keyboard layout was still wrong
but now that im logged in it is the right one
okay
Feel free to open a new ticket or some shit
thank you for your help so far
i mean i still wanted to ask about the finger printer
finger scanner
finger print scanner
for login
You can boot windows from the bios right?
no
then how you did boot grub?
i can send you a screenshot
not screenshot
but photo
in this setting it will just load grub
before i disabled bitlocker, everytime id have secure boot enabled it would boot into windows automatically
ignoring the grub boot loader of the EndeavourOS i had installed instead of this Arch previously
dolphin?
seems like its not installed
okay i installed it
i can access my windows partition
that works
for tomorrow
cuz i need these files tomorrow
๐ฆ
okay thats all i need for today, thank you a lot
ok!!
for everything else i'll just create new posts
try using sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
Just to see if it detects the windows efi partition now
fixed
omg
now you can boot windows
now its perfect
that legit makes me so happy rn
make sure ofthis
read this, not now, but make sure to read it and apply what it says https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Dual_boot_with_Windows#Fast_Startup_and_hibernation
it works
i can boot into windows without having to enter some keys i dont know
even tho secure boot is off
i think i already disabled fast startup for windows
i did that like one or two days ago
oh good
especially for all this patience
You turned off bitlocker remember?
any progress here?
did you end up leaving secure boot on or did you just turn bitlocker and secure boot off?
Yeah
Also instead of endevour we ended up installing arch itself
fair enough
i've had trouble installing endeavour on machines with secure boot
fiddly
archinstall didn't always exist
endeavour is as close to an out of the box usable arch experience that you can get without needing to do it manually
its a great stepping stone for people coming from ubuntu etc
i mean so does archinstall
some people need a functional system, and want the flexibility to modify it
You do make decisions in arch install compared to pre build in endevoyr
endeavour is just arch but with the low level decisions made for you and documented
so you can still tweak it a lot just like you would arch
i used endeavour for like 8 months while i learned enough to be able to do an arch install properly first try
I mean atleast it's not manjaro
yeah
I sat for a week trying to learn arch installation
its manjaro done properly
A week cos of trial and error
I think my support page was somewhere here
It made me a better arch user compared to when I used archinstall
yep, that's why i did endeavour first (at the recommendation of people here), cause I wanted to use arch but i couldn't afford to not have a functional machine while i did it (and vms are cringe)
Vms are cringe
so i installed the arch installation tools (arch-chroot etc) on my endeavour install
My friends told me I could brick my pc on arch install
e.g. if you wanted to you could overwrite your efivars and brick your uefi
Never looked back again
I'm not that stupid lol
ofc, its also something that's hard enough to do that you can't really do it without knowing what you're doing
So now what do you use??
I started on arch
and toying with the idea of going to hyprland
Went to fedora due to fearmongering
hehe
Came back anyways
based
It's so stupid when people cry over new users using arch
it depends what you need from your machine, i just couldn't afford to be stuck in a tty when i needed my laptop for work etc
Lol
there's nothing wrong with it, its just that for a lot of new users, the arch learning curve is too steep and can end with them switching back to windows/macos for good
hence the ubuntu/fedora first mentality
Well yeah it makes sence
But I dint give up easily
I had a rough ride tbh
I hated windows so much I wasted a week of my life
And nobody was willing to help
Everybody just posted the wiki
The wiki felt too complicated for no reason at all
I mean it's a guide on how to install arch
Only beginners would need it
i get why people do, cause as annoying as it is for a beginner 99% of the time the wiki has exactly what you needed in it
the number of times i've wrestled with a problem for hours/days/weeks
only to find that there was a note on the wiki for this exact thing that i skimmed over every time i went back to look at it
I mean like when I ask suck a straight forward questions
I asked what the package name of things I need to install discover
There was an optional package
Packagekit-qt5
This guy wont tell me, he'd send me the pacman wiki page bruh
just found out my fprint sensor is not supported ๐ฆ
Then nothing to do
HP is such a bad notebook company
Tbf dell fprint sensors don't work either
@tepid perch is this a HP elite book per chance?
i dont like fingerprint sensors anyways, i find them lame in a laptop
it costs more too and overall looks ugly
it give a laptop a pice increase of an average headphones
some people may like it idk
its convenient if it works
