#[SOLVED] No audio on new installation

I've just completed a new install of arch with KDE Plasma on a laptop, and I've just gone head and installed pipewire (jack, asla, pulse) and enabled them
However, I still have no sound. I can't find anything else I'm supposed to do to get the speakers working, in the past it's always just worked immediately.

#

i don't really know but did you installed wireplumber ?

nocturne hornet
#

is that a necessity here?

#

well, grabbed it anyway, no difference

split oar
#

install sof-firmware

nocturne hornet
#

aighty

thorny storm
split oar
#

as for wireplumber
also install pipewire pipewire-pulse pipewire-alsa pipewire-jack

nocturne hornet
#

yeah done that

split oar
#

then enable user services for wireplumber pipewire and pipewire-pulse

nocturne hornet
#

oh I didn't enable wireplumber service

split oar
thorny storm
#

Try rebooting once as you just installed wireplumber

split oar
#

because there are drivers needed for prop hardware
sof-firmware are for onboard audio

nocturne hornet
#

I should probably enable the service first

#

systemctl enable wireplumber.service returns does not exist

thorny storm
#

Try

#

--user

#

systemctl --user enable .....

nocturne hornet
#

that was it

#

thank you

thorny storm
#

What i usually do is watch some vudeo along with following arch wiki

#

Good .. glad i could help

nocturne hornet
#

should I expect a restart to be necessary before it'll work

strange tendon
#

no, a relog should do it

thorny storm
#

Not really sure .. but do it just in case

nocturne hornet
#

oh yeah relog

strange tendon
#

enable --now enables it for next restart and starts it now

#

systemctl --user start <service>

thorny storm
strange tendon
#

relogging from tty via exit or display manager, most of the things don't need a reboot

thorny storm
#

Ohk ... never heard this term before .. nice

nocturne hornet
#

okay another thing, pipewire pulse service also doesn't exist, even with --user

thorny storm
nocturne hornet
#

oh well I've already rebooted since installing that

#

so I guess I'm supposed to be good

#

still no audio though

thorny storm
#

But you still have to start the pipewire-pulse.servixe

nocturne hornet
#

ah

#

okay got it

#

there was no output so I assume it worked

thorny storm
#

There are two tyoe of units .. system level and user level

#

You generally have to look into readme which command it takes

nocturne hornet
#

still no audio
I also checked the service status and it was running fine

strange tendon
#

pactl info?

thorny storm
#

Sorry i dont know anything further ...
maybe see this and follow wiki or someone here can help .. i am also new so really dont know that much

nocturne hornet
# strange tendon `pactl info`?

strange tendon
#

looks like the issue i had

#

move /etc/pipewire to somewhere else you can remember, and reinstall pipewire, check if /etc/pipewire exists again
relog and see if that works

#

can't remember where the config was

nocturne hornet
#

just the pipewire package?

strange tendon
#

yis

nocturne hornet
#

it does exist again yes

#

has not helped though

strange tendon
#

systemctl --user restart pipewire
systemctl --user restart wireplumber

do you have pulseaudio enabled? if so they don't work together

nocturne hornet
#

I believe pa was removed when pipewire was installed as they conflict

strange tendon
#

pipewire is there but it's not detecting the device

#

lsusb shows the headphones or audio source?

nocturne hornet
#

Would a laptop's built in speakers show there?

strange tendon
#

i don't think so but lspci should (also a reboot might be worth trying simd)

nocturne hornet
#

IT'S WORKING

#

REBOOT FIXED IT

strange tendon
nocturne hornet
#

lmao

strange tendon
#

mark as solved and enjoy

nocturne hornet
#

I will now reboot constantly whenever I change anything following this one experience

#

thank you!

strange tendon
#

most things usually just require a relog, when i load nvidia module and relog it just works instead of rebooting, seems pipewire is a different case (and it's a little too overlook-ish to look at the code)

nocturne hornet
#

wym overlook-ish?

strange tendon
#

to find out what it loads and what it needs, just to see if it really needs a reboot or not lols

nocturne hornet
#

aah

nocturne hornet
#

Oh how do you mark a thread as solved
