#Fresh Arch Install on VB booting into GNU GRUB
76 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
what exactly
i think i know what it is
nevermind i dont
unless its like in that page dedicated for grub itself
not the bootloader section
on the guide
found this on reddit though
sorry for the ping btw
would this be it?
Yes
thought so
yeah but when i try to mount those partitions it just gives me that default error message
even when i do it on a new entry for arch on vb
i must be doing something wrong, just cant figure it out
because that partitions are not the same on every computer or Virtual Machine
think you got it wrong, i have actually created two partitions for my virtual disk (/dev/sda1, /dev/sda2), the first one is for root and the second one is for boot. i cant use the mount command cause it just gives me that default error message
do i need to do this after i installed the kernel?
hi, you can still enter the system from grub but the commands are a bit complicated, since it's a vm you can chroot again (rearrange or add the live environment again) and fix it from there
virtual disks are called /dev/vda i think, you can check this via lsblk
after using grub-install, you have to generate the config from grub-mkconfig, i feel like something went wrong with archinstall if you chose the wipe disk and select best options
im not using archinstall anymore, i was, but figured it was easier to do it myself
how do i do it? do i need to boot from iso again?
settings on the system you installed, disks, i don't remember exactly but the same way you add an iso, after booting from that iso lsblk if it's there (i'm speaking in theory since i never tried it but i'm confident it should work)
redo the mounting and arch-chroot steps
alright
done, i still cant chroot
do i need to pacstrap again?
yeah
NOW i can chroot
so i just need to insert that command and thats it?
grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
huh
ig ill have to reinstall grub
k done
ig ill have to reinstall all my stuff too
cause i formatted the disks
it still didn't work?
oh, what happened?
well you told me to remount the disks again
so i recreated their filesystems ig
i formatted them
wasnt i supposed to do that?
sorry i should've clarified, no just mount and then arch-chroot without anything else and after grub-mkconfig it should've worked
oh lmao
well
now i need to do everything
again
that includes installing the linux kernel too
try arch-install if you don't feel like it, latest versions are working for me
well i have another post on linux support about archinstall
thats why im doing it manually
oh wait nvm
YESS
i got it working lets go
ty for the help snail
im using discord on vm now
holy fucking shit that means i can install arch now
IM FREE OF MANJARO!!!!!!!!
Why did you even touch Manjaro something like arco or artix would have been better
i wanted to install linux so i googled the most popular distros and chose manjaro
see i didnt know its prone to breaking or stuff like that
even though that never happened to me, i still think its very possible it may happen
That's why you research
Arch
sorry i was bizzy, glad to see it worked, enjoy
