#Most programs don't detect audio devices

are you using pipewire or pulseaudio or maybe you aren't sure
I think I'm using pipewire but pulseaudio is also installed (it's probably a dependency of something?)
install pipewire-alsa pipewire-jack and pipewire-pulse
will do that when I get back to my computer
that removed pulseaudio
and it helped
thanks!
except that spotify-tui still doesn't detect the devices, but discord does now?
and also the audio doesn't work in discord, but it does see the devices now
pipewire-pulse is pipewire's implementation of pulseaudio, that's why pulseaudio got replaced with it
Ah I see
can't play yt videos now as well, they just keep buffering, had this issue before and a reboot fixed it then
I guess I'll reboot and see if anything changes
back
yt videos work again, audio included
spotify-tui still doesn't find any devices
but discord audio does work now
there were 3 APIs for managing audio in linux: Alsa, Jack and Pluse Audio.
pipewire provides it's own implementation of these APIs so that it can communicate with programs that require pulseudio, jack, or alsa.
you can't really use pipewire and pulseaudio at the same time tho.
I think I might have some jack stuff installed as well
How would I check for that?
pacman -Q jack just returns pipewire-jack
so I think it's fine
you can't have jack, pacman would have made you replace it when you installed pipewire-jack
that's probably what happened then
any idea why spotify-tui doesn't show any devices?
idk how spotify-tui works, it's weird that it isn't detecting the audio devices
spotify itself is also incredibly broken, can't view liked songs, can't play a song
i have to go, google around for issues relating to audio detection with spotify-tui
I think it's something related with spotifyd, it wasn't even installed on my system
which is probably the issue
thanks for the help!
I'm now using a different spotify client ncspot, it works flawlessly
maybe I'll try to fix spotify-tui one day but for now I'm happy with ncspot
it seems like a spotify-tui issue
Yeah I think so too
you can file a bug in their bug tracker
there was one but they closed it saying "you need spotify premium" which I think the person who posted the issue did have
though, my phone is found and maybe this issue is really only about nothing appearing at all
which is not the case
I just don't see any audio devices
