have you tried ignoring the error and logging in like normal
like can you still type your username
what happens when you try
try what
to start a DE
How do I do that if I may ask
or your display manager if you have one
i think i did that and it failed
depends what DE and if it's x or wayland
error message?
I had gnome previously and then installed kde and used x on my user
maybe it messed up the settings
installing 2 DE's at the same time can cause configuration conflicts
not sure
do you have a ~/.xinitrc file?
actually you don't really need it
i think you can just type startplasma-x11
display is not set or cannot connect to the X server
okay you do need to use startx
you should have a file ~/.xinitrc with the contents:
export DESKTOP_SESSION=plasma
exec startplasma-x11
if it doesn't exist, then create it
then you can run startx
if you don't have that then sudo pacman -S xorg-xinit
or you can look into re-configuring your display manager
that may be what's broken here
for that i need to figure out which one i even have right
yeah
would it just make more sense to just reinstall the entire OS since this system is brand new
it should be sufficient to remove the gnome configuration files
