wayland or xorg
nvidia-smi
xorg
x11
basically it keeps just either freezing, going black, or when I boot it wont let my type my password in till I unplug the hdmi
also, are you on optimus?
dont think so no
did this happen on windows?
no
huh strange
I use prime-run through steam idk
I dont think I have optimus installed
try installing nvidia-lts
optimus = integrated gpu and nvidia gpu
itll uninstall nvidia and replace it with a more stable driver
just needed to update repos
reboot after its done installing
i assume you rebooted?
yeah I did
yeah just use the lts for now
if its still being funky
try also using the linux-lts kernel
(which iirc nvidia-lts supports but you might need dkms(
if you still get issues even after using the lts kernel then ping me
okay il see what happens
some gpus and motherboards just hate linux, too
yeah ive noticed linux doesnt enjoy having to work with gpus lol
nvidia support was kinda yucky for linux
but it is getting better
sometimes ive gotten better performance in games, sometimes worse
yeah ive noticed, ive got this weird thing only in war thunder where my mouse wont go past a certain area on the screen
idk how to fix it and it usually only lasts a few seconds
try installing gamemoderun
where can I get that?
i think the package name is gamemoderun or gamemode
what does it do?
adds a bunch of optimizations to games
i dont think itll fix this, ill try to find a solution
nah just have gamemoderun %command% as your steam launch properties
unless you have an integrated gpu, you shouldnt need prime-run
it could also just be a desktop issue
you could try to install gnome /shrug
thats why I use it lol cus I do have an iGPU
ah ok
noooo not gnome
I just dont like the UI
then prime-run gamemoderun %command%
you could try i3?
it looks bad out of the box but after some customization you can get it looking nice
I still have gnome installed cus it was my started DE and I cant uninstall it cus everything breaks
there are a lot of good window managers
huh
wdym
so I swapped from gnome to KDE, but when I try uninstalling gnome to free up some space everything breaks and ive gotta boot into command line and reinstall gnome
@sick seal all seems to be working fine, guess its just arch being arch thanks for the help
