#[unresolvable] archinstall doesnt see usb?
409 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I had the same issue i can't really explain why but i found a "fix" for it
Eariler arch didn't detect my extra ssd and what i did was install arch on the main machine and then do all the things via the machine
I will look if other people got the same issues and let you know if there is a better fix for it
The story is much longer my laptop broke down and i bought a new one, I just took out the ssd from the broken laptop and added it in the extra ssd slot
i want to have a arch usb tho
The usb didn't detect the ssd so i wasn't able to dd the drive to my main drive
i want it to go everywhere with me
Well that's actually easy
Wait i will grab the packages
yeah BUT ARCH DOESNT FUCKİNF SEE İT
You got linux installed in the main drive?
no
Hmm i'm pretty sure windows won't work really good with that but lets see if we are able to do something
It should see a drive no matter the format
If it doesn't it means the drive is unplugged
it isnt tho
idk why but the bios sees the usb as a boot drive
and when i try to boot into it nothing happens
Exactly the same problem i've had
If you want to do that you’ll be better off doing an install manually using this guide (https://mags.zone/help/arch-usb.html) and the official installation wiki page.
Guide to installing Arch Linux on a USB stick.
He doesn't have linux installed on the main machine though
I think he can use dd if he installed git bash
He doesn’t need it installed to make a portable USB installation.
bro i just want to use archinstall dont try to make me to do something else
iam not gonna go through another guide i just want archinstall to see the motherufukcjfnfn usb
So here is what i suggest doing
Take a look at this
You can see "bootstrap"
isnt there supposed to be like rather a easy solution
Supposed to be
like the usb is just not detected
Arch install is a buggy mess, but I wish you the best of luck.
tf is this this is just arch isos
Look at the bootstrap
i dont think so but thanks
Ari RERA 43 received a thank you cookie!
That's the rootfs
ArchInstall is meant to automate installations, not be an easy way to bypass any kind of difficulty.
i know what iam saying is "isnt there a. Easy solution to see a usb"
xd
I'm still really confused on what you want to do, Judging by the text i think you are supposed to be creating a live usb?
bro i just want archinstall to see my usb dont ask me questions i ask the questions
So you got two usb's ?
yes
And in one you have arch iso flashed
one for arch iso and one for arch to be installed on
Well starting off arch doesn't even detect the usb and i honestly have no clue there is a way you can do this
You can install some other distro on the usb
I meant
Like
THe live one
And use the bootstrap to install on the other usb
Every distro can be portable
@torpid gyro
Archinstall should detect all the drives
why would i do that i want arch on it
well it DOESNT
I meant on the live usb
Instead of archinstall replace it with some other distro
And that should detect the drive
other distros dont fit
From there we use archbootstrap to install on the other usb
the usb is 1 gb
Bruh listen to what i'm saying
Bruhh 1 GB for real?
im dying rn
So i guess we might have to find an another way for it now, or an another distro
but arch wont install on a 1 gb usb
That's not what he meant
wait how do i tell u this
He said that the 1gb usb was for arch install
And using that usb he is trying to install on an another usb
İAM GONNA İNSTALL ARCH ON MY 16 GB USB WİTH THE ARCHİSO İ HAVE ON MY 1 GB USB
DO U UNDER STAND @blazing aspen
okay seems fair
the guide doesnt FUCKİNG TELL ME HOW TO SEE USBS DOES İT
EXACTLY
literally me
@torpid gyro I'm pretty sure we can figure this out
Are you using windows on the main machine?
Yea we totally thought you would be using windows
.
So we use windows to install it i guess
I just have to find out how to gen a efi partition with it
man u know what fuck it iam just gonna google it and try to find a way out

Thank you
nothing is solved
iam waiting for someone else
if they can answer it
let the channel be here
I have an idea
I found a possible way
What's that
use vm and then plug in the usb
@blazing aspen u look trustworthy pls tell
try doing that
yeah
AYO THAT MAKES SENSE
Yea shit i forgot that was a thing
THANK U SO MUCH
just make sure the vm can see the usb stick
@blazing aspen can u help me pleade
Don't mark this solved until you are able to install the thing onto the usb
idk I dont want to help you mess with the main system with windoz on it lol
come to dm
There are voice channels in this place
im bad with vms bro I do docker
You don't hvae to screenshare
You should have screen sharing permissions here
I suggest using vmware since it's the easiest
Virtual box should work but it's kinda hard to work with
@blazing aspen @torpid gyro While you guys are doing the vm install i will try to see why archinstall is like this
Yea but archinstall shouldn't be not detecting extra usb's
I'm assuming it's an issue with the namespace and stuff
that should prob work
yeah mb didnt see
its ok
fat32 should work
Well intel RST is a special type of thing, It's like the whole driver thing
Without it you wouldn't be able to see the drive
yeah use vm lol imagine selecting the wrong drive
I pretty much had to play hot potato with the partitions
I managed to do really weird shit and fuck it up hard as hell
So my objective was to use the arch usb to copy the partitions from my original ssd into the new one and use the original as an extra ssd
And archinstall didn't detect my original ssd
So what i did was install arch on the main drive and booted into it and then i copied all the files from my ssd to my main drive
And it for some reason booted into the external ssd because they had the same uuid's
I literally made my 10 year old laptop a server 2 days ago and I didnt have any error (it had win10)
I used that as a chance wiped out all of the things in my main drive and copied it again because my root was in partition2 and i wanted it as 1 for reasons after that it again booted into the ssd
So i ended up having to change my uuid's of partitions
And finally it worked
why is arch bullying my usb
can you send me that text
ill try
I dont understand how he was able to see the 1 gb usb and not the one he's trying to install it on 💀
bro why did u left
wdym i am
did u screen shot it
ye
doing the good ol' google lens thing

@torpid gyro
fr
but arch is private
like what do u think u are fucking riots
do u really think u can change
reddits opinion
at this point I think that your usb doesnt support or miss something
idk
Either your usb is messed up or just straight up faulty
not faulty, it shows on windows
It shows but who knows if it's got damaged sectors
yeah that could be one of the issue
send the reddit link
(i used web archive because stupid obese redditors are protesting)
crazyyyyy
i dont have another one
oh damn
bro if i had another one then i would have put the arch iso on a 1 gb usb 💀
idk at this point I think usb sticks sell for free lol
they getting cheaper and cheaper
well in my country it gets even more expensive
because of severe inflation
(i live in turkey)
damn
3$ ARE YOU KIDDING ME
turkey is great
fr i hope so
erdogan won again but he changed the economy minister
and he is a good one too
but his message made all hopes fall
he said " the situation is worse then expected"
💀
bro was expecting it
yep
hes brutally honest but a good economist
and 1 dolar is 25 liras
and when erdogan first came and ruled the country and the economy good
1 dolar was
2 liras...
this 10 year old laptop which I switched to arch is doing great as a server, I literally installed it over windows and got no errors
the last month was bad too I just saw the graph
yep
i was thinking of buying sterlin when it was 25 liras
now its 30
iam so sad
hope yall turkish people doing well
nice
i mean we live fine but
every day the groceires are more expensive
and we fear we are going to be broke
I mean we saw sri lanka going down in the year 2018
i think my usb is corrupted
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
i guess its not archs fault
how??
i cant delete the volume
from the win disk manager
it acts weird
this is all fedoras fault
I HATE FEDORA
try gparted
nah
iam going to make
a partition in my
extra hard drive
say how do u do partitioning in archinstall
uh idk I recommend using gparted for all partitions in a disk
its easy and works
how do i do the stuff in archinstall
like
/boot
/root
stuff like that
theres no gui i dont know how to do it
just use the option "wipe all partition and do your own thing" option
...
Too few arguments for command note!
Usage: .note <name>
bro
it comes in disk layout
bro it does the thing for you
bro u said wipe ALL
ehhhh
everything is DELETED
yeah
no idea about that because I never used it
backup data before doing anything
its empty
um
thats the extra hard drive
ohhhhh my bad
i thought u were talking about the
corrupted usb
my bad
oh damn
yeah uhhh the problem is
the extra hard drive IS the backup
lol
HAHAHAAH LMAOI
@torpid gyro
how bout you take your data to your main pc for temp
and then install arch on the hard drive
and then put all the data back
bro
the data İS from the main pc
like thats the point
i dont think of putting it back there cuz
iam probably going to format the drives that are in my computer
and i know how retarded iam
and iam going to forget the files in the main pc
and delete them when i am formatting the pc
i am installing arch just to know a bit more about it
and when i mostly understand it
i am going to make it my daily drive

Done.
bro i called my self ret*rded
anyways
iam gonna close the
thing here
channel
read what I wrote please.
i know
"even if directing them at urself"
anyways can u delete this topic
cuz i cant
it'll close itself after sometime, just edit the start of the title to say either [solved] or [unresolvable] at the start, and in a day or two it'll archive unless it gets bumped
[unresolvable] archinstall doesnt see usb?
@torpid gyro What happened?
well
one of these happened
1- a normal arch problem
2- the usb is corrupted
idk which one
Welp i have a possible solution, How about we try loading RST drivers?, I'm gonna get my live usb and see if the issue exists then i will do RST driver stuff
nah
iam gonna install it on my
extra hard drive
only problem is
how do i do manual partitioning on arch
cfdisk
I will try doing stuff
I wasn't able to recreate the issue again
This time i used ventoy boot so something might have been weird
Just try using arch iso with ventoy
There is a slight chance it may work because it does for me
It kinda worked for me, have no clue how and why, Here is what i think went wrong either the usb's are fighting for the name "sda" or "sdb"
Archusb pretty much copies itself to ram these days and has become kinda buggy and slow in the process
We should at minimum test if these issues are happening with the older arch version
@torpid gyro Have you tried the following disconnecting the usb after it's copied to ram and maybe swap the usb ports after that
Swap as in remove the arch iso usb and put the usb that you wanna install arch on the same port you booted arch iso off
