Currently trying to use fprint, but I can't seem to be able to get the manufacturer of the device.

I tried lsusb and dmesg but couldn't find any entries.

Laptop model is HP ProBook 650 G1. I think is made by Validity but couldn't find the exact manufacturer and device ids.

I'm pretty sure you don't need them to use fprint

# silk fossil Why do you need those details?

If it's just to check compatibility, I wouldn't sweat it too much. At this point it's easier just to install and try fprint instead of getting hung up on finding the specs

spiral merlin
#

as i didn't saw it listed on dmsg nor lsusb, i also want to see if i can get info about it directly in arch

silk fossil
#

the Arch wiki also recommends the try it and see approach to testing compatibility with sensors

Impossible to enroll: GDBus.Error:net.reactivated.Fprint.Error.NoSuchDevice: No devices available

well in that case, can I see the output of lsusb

Could the fingerprint sensor be disabled in the BIOS settings maybe?

#

and if you ever had Windows installed on the machine, would you happen to know if the sensor worked there?

spiral merlin
#

sensor worked on 10, although it was never used but i added and removed fingerprints to make sure it worked

silk fossil
#

epic HP user manuals not existing

spiral merlin
#

yup, that was my main problem xd

silk fossil
#

did u try the proprietary drivers?

spiral merlin
#

the ones from the repo i posted?

silk fossil
#

yea

spiral merlin
#

i was gonna do it, but i saw the missing packages (i think)

silk fossil
#

oof

#

they have an official driver for SUSE linux ig

spiral merlin
silk fossil
#

did Windows tell u the device specs?

spiral merlin
#

i never checked

silk fossil
#

I'd check that lol

#

If it works on Windows then Windows might know what it is

spiral merlin
#

now i already wiped windows and installed arch so let me see really quick if i can get something like aida64 running on the windows installer

silk fossil
#

I'll be gone for a while so tell me how it goes and I'll get back to you once I'm back

spiral merlin
#

i'm trying to download suse

#

while that downloads, ill get windows a try to see if i can get the models

spiral merlin
#

couldn't find anything related to the fingerprint reader

silk fossil
#

thonk maybe the Windows installer was missing the driver too

spiral merlin
#

but is weird because some devices with missing drivers indeed do apear in said list

silk fossil
#

true... there are plenty of unknown devices so I hope it's one of those

#

maybe u just don't have a fingerprint sensor, since apparently some models of ur laptop have the sensor thing but no actual sensor

spiral merlin
#

it now just straight up doesn't show up

#

imma just declare it dead at this point

#

installed windows 10 on a spare drive with the right drivers, nothing detected
