#[SOLVED] how do I reinstall the grub bootloader?
100 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Do yall have any advice on what I should do?
.aw grub
I
I tried out this command instead
And now I think it should be right command
However, I run into the same size problem about there not being enough space
I was wondering what I could do to increase the space on the /boot partition
Would Gparted be the way to go?
Is there stuff I could delete in /boot that might help
grub-install /boot/
wait no
grub-install --target=x86_64-efi --efi-directory=esp --bootloader-id=GRUB
no it's not
you got to make a efi directory
mkdir /boot/efi
Wait, I was supposed to mount my efi partition at /boot, correct?
And then am I supposed to make /boot/efi?
you're suppose to mount fats32 to /boot
and make efi
Can we have a peek at what prompts when typing lsblk
lsblk
you don't need 7 partitions
Some of them are for windows
I'm out
Wdym? Is there something wrong here?
Not really (?)
Ah, okay
make a efi directory
put in ls /boot
and send a image
you make the efi in the boot folder
put in ls /grub
yes you don't have to cd to something to ls it
I'm assuming you meant /GRUB
can you type in cd
and then type back in
grub-install /boot
also you don't have to capitalize the efi folder
cd takes you to /root, but you meant /, right?
/ is /root silly
cd by itself
This tangential to the point but that isn't the case for me:
cd by itself takes me to ~, which is /root which isn't /
hm weird
Wouldn't it be easier to just start over
I really do think this might be the problem ^
Start what over?
From partitioning onwards
wait you can install other boot loaders
.aw systemd-boot
.aw refined
No results found
But for some reason my bootloader just died
what
And so I'm trying to reinstall grub
.aw rEFIned
No results found
damn
Idk try wiping the efi folder and then install whatever bootloader
You don't have to mantain systemd-boot as much
.aw rEFInd
you can install other ones
See but I'm pretty sure I'll run into the same problem: I just don't have enough space in my partition I believe
refind is easy
try that
pacman -S refind
Okay
refind-install --nodrivers
Damn
true
@soft vessel did it work?
yo, okay so i got everything working again
I am able to boot into arch now
I didnt try installing refind
My hunch that my boot partition just wasn't big enough was right
once I made it bigger with gparted, I was able to reinstall grub from the arch install env and it was smooth sailing
@solar pendant @steady sapphire thank you both for all your help
