perfect!
Right, assuming it works correctly (which it should), you just need to wait until the process is complete, then you'll be able to proceed to the install
yep once the process is done switch off PC and boot from the USB
Standard warning applies: make sure any data you need on your computer is backed up elsewhere before installing a new OS
then proceed with on screen instructions as usual
I keep my data in the cloud so I alwyas wipe my PC clean
then just be careful how you partition etc
I personally solve this problem by not having any important data
tbh me too
yes me too
Wait, is your other drive mounted to /home?
Or just some other path like /data or something?
I actually store my bitcoin wallet data inside a locked container inside my base inside a random No Man's Sky galaxy in a radom star system on a random planet in a radnom cave
no one gonna find it
@woeful swan @hollow swallow sorry I ran out of batterys for my keyboard
just had quick ran to shop and bought new batteryes
how to check this?
its done bootable
can I boot now
Open a terminal in your second drive, type pwd (it displays your current directory)
Or just look at the file path in your file manager if it displays it
That's after opening the terminal inside the second drive, right?
Right, I meant the one which holds your data
actually better yet, type cat /etc/fstab in a terminal and send the output here (this file contains the entries for the drives which are mounted automatically at boot)
i have this drives
1tb one is for data and 111 gb is ssd for boot drive
i hope this makes you clear
remove the tilde
that character: ~
you typed cat /etc/fstab~ instead of cat /etc/fstab
Wait, your data drive is not in the fstab?
Oh, it's an external drive?
so wont be a problem
no internal but I can remove it
it will take 1 min only
You can, just to be safe
but yeah if it's not in the fstab I assume it's not mounted in /home so the concern I had doesn't apply
You may proceed to boot on your USB drive to install
ok so i'll not remove it
i'll chat you from phone now
boot ing pc now
It's booting now
Linux Mint has a GUI installer, so the install process should be self-explanatory. Just triple check that when it asks you where you want to install the system, that you choose the correct drive
Yes nro
Bro
Hi
What partition values to pit
Im doing Maual partitions
@woeful swan
depends on your needs, but you can probably just reuse the same partition scheme as you already have with a fat32 partition for your EFI system partition, and an ext4 partition on your root for the rest of the drive
Also, make sure the bootloader is on the 120gb drive
Yess
How much should be swap
I have 8 gb ram
Should I put 16 gb for swap then
If you wish, though Linux Mint will default to creating a swap file if you don't put a swap partition, so this is not really a concern
Ok
I done like this
For / i kept it so much cause I have lots of apps to instal
this should work fine
Hi
I'm in now
Thanks alot bro
One more thing about downloading packages guide me
Which package manager to use , from where to download ,
And more
Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, so you'll want to use apt to get your packages.
You can, though do note that mintinstall will let you install flatpaks as well as packages from apt
Ooh I see
Also, remember to use the update manager (or apt if you want to use the terminal for that) to get your system updated
Ok got ut
It
Mini is very stable I would say
While downloading packages system doesn't get hang
if you want to use the terminal, you'll want to use the apt update (update package information) and apt upgrade (apply all available package updates) commands
Ok
Got it bro
I'm downloading softwares which I use daily from the store
Then I'll update and upgrade
is there way to install the app which i have download from official site
like i have downloaded node js
and I have to install it
I want to install this
Does it need to be this specific version, or is whatever the latest is fine?
Looks like you'll want to follow these instructions: https://github.com/nodejs/help/wiki/Installation
Although I would recommend installing it via your package manager instead. The version of nodejs you have downloaded is the current LTS so I assume that's what you'll want. The NodeSource repo has a script to set it up for your system:
curl -fsSL https://deb.nodesource.com/setup_lts.x | sudo -E bash - &&\
sudo apt-get install -y nodejs
First line downloads and executes the script that will set the nodejs LTS repository, second line installs the package. You can (and should) check what the script actually does by opening the URL in the first line (or here, it's the same script: https://github.com/nodesource/distributions/blob/master/deb/setup_lts.x)
Well, Hello Games could… but that’s off topic, sorry.
yes got it
@woeful swan bro you have helped me alot today
thanks alot
i'll never forget you
np
hey @acoustic troutif this is solved you should prolly add solved
