so I'm quite new to linux and arch, but I decided to give it a go after using fedora a few weeks. so far everything has been flawless, but this one thing has been something I just haven't figured out. so my download speed seems to be limited at ~2.2mb/s for some weird reason. I have a dual boot so I tried the speed in windows and I can download stuff from steam at ~5mb/s so this is definitely arch related problem, but I just have no idea where to look at and google didnt give me any answers.

What network manager are you using?
And can you do a real speedtest on something like speedtest.com to compare?
Also, this could just be because of a bad mirror or whatever, so do a proper speedtest.
first I had dhcpcd and today I tried networkmanager, but it didnt change anything. I did speedtest and it gave normal results. so far it occurs with at least steam and package manager. I'm not sure if it helps or if its just a coincidence, but that limit at 2.2mb/s is pretty much exactly 50% of the speed I get in windows.
also if its worth noting I didnt have this problem with fedora which I used before arch
it's obvious that the package manager might be limited since mirrors can only be so fast, and perhaps the steam mirrors for linux are just... shitter?
you said the speedtests are both the same (roughly) right?
that's what I thought first too but with fedora I had exactly the same download speed with steam which makes this pretty weird. and yes the speedtest is the same with arch and windows.
Then I'm just as confused as you, how did you install steam on both arch and fedora?
Maybe this could help?
A lot of people are saying it could be because of the DNS resolver
which DNS resolver are you using?
on both I downloaded it from their official repos, there's a chance I had the flatpak version on fedora though I'm not 100% sure. but I'll take a look at those links soon and report back later. dns resolver is something I havent touched at all.
yeah people are saying that steam absolutely spams the dns resolver, but it puzzles me why it wasn't an issue on fedora?
yea that makes me wonder that it must be issue with arch or something I havent installed, I guess. but also it clearly isnt just a problem with steam since the download speeds are limited exactly the same with package manager.
yeah but pacman will never be as fast as a speedtest so i don't think so
just the fact that package manager has that exact same limit at 2.2mb/s makes me sure that it's not only steam problem
i guess yea
