I hope that helps a little
It just repeats those 2-3 errors over and over

not sure I'll be able to help, but just to check a couple of things:
can you show me cat /etc/pacman.conf and can you run sudo pacman -Syu?

jolly halo
#

Sure!

chilly fulcrum
#

and this is vanilla arch right?

/etc/pacman.conf

See the pacman.conf(5) manpage for option and repository directives

GENERAL OPTIONS

[options]

The following paths are commented out with their default values listed.

If you wish to use different paths, uncomment and update the paths.

#RootDir = /
#DBPath = /var/lib/pacman/
#CacheDir = /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
#LogFile = /var/log/pacman.log
#GPGDir = /etc/pacman.d/gnupg/
#HookDir = /etc/pacman.d/hooks/
HoldPkg = pacman glibc
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/curl -L -C - -f -o %o %u
#XferCommand = /usr/bin/wget --passive-ftp -c -O %o %u
#CleanMethod = KeepInstalled
Architecture = auto

Pacman won't upgrade packages listed in IgnorePkg and members of IgnoreGroup

#IgnorePkg =
#IgnoreGroup =

#NoUpgrade =
#NoExtract =

Misc options

#UseSyslog
#Color
#NoProgressBar
CheckSpace
#VerbosePkgLists
#ParallelDownloads = 5

By default, pacman accepts packages signed by keys that its local keyring

trusts (see pacman-key and its man page), as well as unsigned packages.

SigLevel = Required DatabaseOptional
LocalFileSigLevel = Optional
#RemoteFileSigLevel = Required

#

NOTE: You must run pacman-key --init before first using pacman; the local

keyring can then be populated with the keys of all official Arch Linux

packagers with pacman-key --populate archlinux.

REPOSITORIES

- can be defined here or included from another file

- pacman will search repositories in the order defined here

- local/custom mirrors can be added here or in separate files

- repositories listed first will take precedence when packages

have identical names, regardless of version number

- URLs will have $repo replaced by the name of the current repo

- URLs will have $arch replaced by the name of the architecture

Repository entries are of the format:

[repo-name]

Server = ServerName

Include = IncludePath

The header [repo-name] is crucial - it must be present and

uncommented to enable the repo.

The testing repositories are disabled by default. To enable, uncomment the

repo name header and Include lines. You can add preferred servers immediately

after the header, and they will be used before the default mirrors.

#[testing]
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

[core]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

[extra]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

#[community-testing]
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

[community]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

If you want to run 32 bit applications on your x86_64 system,

enable the multilib repositories as required here.

#[multilib-testing]
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

#[multilib]
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

An example of a custom package repository. See the pacman manpage for

tips on creating your own repositories.

#[custom]
#SigLevel = Optional TrustAll
#Server = file:///home/custompkgs

hmmm, try uninstalling chromium and then install it using pacman? I never use gui's for installing packages

jolly halo
#

pacman -S ungoogled-chromium ?

chilly fulcrum
jolly halo

using -Ss shows no result, (thats the search function if im not mistaken)

chilly fulcrum

you might want the aur for it

Best bet is to google first, ask later, it's showing you difference in package build

jolly halo

Oh apparently thats something about inspecting build packages for malicious code

exactly

Oh damn it needs 12h 💀

its surprisingly time consuming

THey do seem to have the same error that Im having, though the side effects arent really the same

chilly fulcrum
#

what packages did you install when you installed gnome?

jolly halo
#

I did install pacman packages before that, but they were network related

#

WHen it came to the DE, I just installed gnome and then enabled some app that starts with "g" in the services

#

I rebooted and I was in gnome

chilly fulcrum
#

gdm?

jolly halo

(Yes

I think thats it

chilly fulcrum

what is your output of mutter in the terminal?

jolly halo

I just tried chrome from yay aswell, also doesnt open

jolly halo
chilly fulcrum
#

when you can, can you log out and log back in on x11?

#

what gpu are you using?

jolly halo
chilly fulcrum

when you click to type in your password, there should be a cog in the bottom right, that will likely have the option

jolly halo
chilly fulcrum

echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
in terminal should tell you what you're using

jolly halo
#

it says wayland, imma login using the x11 thing and see what it says

jolly halo
chilly fulcrum
#

do applications launch now?

jolly halo
#

Imma try reinstalling chrome and see

chilly fulcrum
#

try the calender?

jolly halo
#

THANK YOU
I dont understand what changed or whats wayland or x11, but as long as it works im happy lol
Imma google them anyways

chilly fulcrum
#

okay it's a wayland issue for gnome, that's interesting

jolly halo
#

I guess I should just stick to this xorg thing

#

untill gnome fixes it

chilly fulcrum
#

might want to stick to X11 for a couple weeks then retry wayland, see if the bug is fixed

jolly halo
#

Alrighty!

chilly fulcrum
#

not sure if it's a mutter or wayland bug to be fair

jolly halo
#

is wayland like better than x11? except for that bug?

#

if not then I guess I have no reason to switch back later

#

If I understood correctly they are display servers/ protocols for display

chilly fulcrum
#

it's, complicated, as it's partly drivers as well, on nvidia x11 is better, on amd wayland is better, on intel integrated cpu's, I genuinely don't know

jolly halo
#

Oh well
X11 seems to work just fine so imma just stick to that and do my thing I guess

#

Thanks a lot for the help!
I wouldnt have thought of changing that setting on my own lol not in a million years

chilly fulcrum
#
