#SOLVED connect to wifi
127 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Are Wi-Fi drivers installed? What chipset do you have?
I think installed
Network manager
After doing all things I rebooted my system
So now I want to connect to wifi
Network Manager is not a Wi-Fi driver. You may need to install a Wi-Fi driver to use your specific Wi-Fi chipset.
What is command to install it?
Depends on the chipset
Um how do I check what chipset I have?
lsusb -v or lspci -k and try to find anything related to wireless
Btw what does
adi-arch is not in the sudoers file
Means?
as I tried to enable network manager
adi-arch is name I kept as user
It means you aren’t able to use sudo because of one or more of the following
- You are not in the wheel group
- The wheel group is not allowed to use sudo in your configuration
Now what should I do? To use sudo?
switch to root, run visudo, uncomment the line that lets you use sudo if you’re in the wheel group, and then add yourself to the wheel group.
You could also just switch to root and run whatever commands you want that way, but it’s less convenient and slightly easier to mess something up
visudo: no editor found (editor path = /usr/bin/vi)
It says this
Edit the config file directly using whatever editor you like then. I forgot the path, 1 sec.
Plain old Vi?
Yes
/etc/sudoers
I can use nano
Pacstrap is for installing base packages to a new / (usually only during installation), do you mean pacman?
Nono like I remember I used pacstrap yo install linux and linux-firmware
But it seems like pacstrap doesn't seems to be working but only in root
That was during the installation, this is the real system now, right?
Yes while installation
pacman is used in the installed system, not pacstrap
Pacstrap worked!
Oh okk
Btw like I heard I need to install audio, video everything from scratch in arch in plasma.. can u tell me all list of imp packages? Which I should install?
I never used Linux before so sorry for all these dumb questions 🥲
You should start with something like Fedora, not Arch.
Oh
The syntax is different, but yes, it's a package manager like apt
Alright alright
Gimme a min to type my reply to this
Sure sure 😊
Do you want to use Plasma on Xorg or Wayland
So plasma already works?
I havnt got into it... I'm still on black terminal
I was just hoping to install some imp packages in terminal
.
Do I don't need ?
So do you have sudo working now
Plasma kde
Yes, on Xorg or Wayland though, or do you not know.
Um which one would be better for me?
I've never done plasma on Wayland so I can't really help with that
Probably Xorg since you're new to this, and there's better compatability
Alright I'll go with xorg
Do you want to get networking or plasma working first?
I'm connected to internet already..as my sudo worked I enabled my network manager and started it
So wifi fully works now?
yes
great!
I can Install things yes yes
Onto plasma...
Like I just installed plasma after wifi worked
Do you want to use a graphical login or log in via the TTY and then start plasma yourself?
Oh, ok
Maybe Graphical
As now I'm in arch
Gui
plasma
I can see apps and desktop
Run sudo pacman -S --needed sddm
Oh wait so you're in plasma now?
Oh so everything is just working, and you enabled a display manager at some point?
like sddm
Um I think I did
Oh, then you should be good, assuming you also have proper drivers
I ran these commands
Yea, that's right
You could've just used the second one
Is there anything else you want explained or need help with?
Install a screenshot tool. I think KDE has one built-in.
You may need to manually bind it to prt sc in settings
Make sure pulseaudio is installed and running (or pipewire if you prefer)
.aw pulseaudio
i prefer nothing 😅 as i have 0 info about any of em'
which one would be best for me?
Probably pulse for the same reasons as xorg
tried and true
Run it too
btw
when i run it
and when i close termianl
sound dissappears again
no but do i need to open termianl and run this command to hear any sound?
what if my friend is using my laptop and they dont know about this
No
No
1 sec
I'm juggling rn
... close
