i already posted about this but i thought the issue was solved (haha random problem go brrr)
all i know is that i use pulseaudio for sound currently, randomly sound disappears and the only thing that can fix it is starting then killing pipewire
journalctl only show me starting and stopping pulseaudio/pipewire and nothing else

#

in case someone says just use pipewire instead i cant, i have pickly apps that only work with one or the other so i need both installed

`pacman -Q | grep pipewire
lib32-pipewire 1:0.3.65-2
pipewire 1:0.3.65-6
pipewire-alsa 1:0.3.65-6
pipewire-audio 1:0.3.65-6

pacman -Q | grep pulseaudio
pulseaudio 16.1-3`

Something sus

violet bear
#

if ![ pgrep '^pulseaudio' > /dev/null; ] then /usr/bin/pulseaudio fi

#

all for sound

sharp forum
#

Like u might run a random bash script which did that

violet bear
#

i kill it and swap to pipewire when i have to

sharp forum
#

Bruh, there is a package for pipewire setup, it will ask u to delete pulse audio

violet bear
#

i might have forced it? idk i need both tho (

sharp forum
#

Ur decision, if pulseaudio doesn’t work, u should prob try on pipewire

#

Just try searching pipewire on yay

#

And show me what packages are there

#

Or just yay -S pipewire<TAB> and show me a screenshot

#

So I can give u the exact package

violet bear
#

yay -Q | grep pipewire lib32-pipewire 1:0.3.65-2 pipewire 1:0.3.65-6 pipewire-alsa 1:0.3.65-6 pipewire-audio 1:0.3.65-6
this?

violet bear
sharp forum
#

Tab completion?

violet bear
#

i think i might not have advanced completion set up, just the basic command bs

violet bear
sharp forum
#

Install it

violet bear
#

its installed

sharp forum
#

Watt

#

How

violet bear
#

pacman -Q | grep pipewire lib32-pipewire 1:0.3.65-2 pipewire 1:0.3.65-6 pipewire-alsa 1:0.3.65-6 pipewire-audio 1:0.3.65-6

violet bear

#

Wat about pulseaudio, u might install the wrong one ??

violet bear
#

yay -Q | grep pulse lib32-libpulse 16.1-1 libpulse 16.1-3 pulseaudio 16.1-3 pulsemixer 1.5.1-3

#

i mean the sound works

#

with it so doubt

sharp forum
#

Hav u rebooted or sth ur machine

violet bear
#

yes

#

10ths of times

sharp forum
#

How do u start pipewire?

#

Try going on pulsemixer

violet bear
#

its not running rn tho and i got the issue too

#

but kill pulse and run it

sharp forum
#

….

#

See if pulsemixer think there is daemon or not

#

And see if it’s mute or not

violet bear
#

not mute

#

and also not an issue with controllers or output type

#

a few weeks ago i could fix it by changing the volume drastically sometimes

#

now it doesnt work at all (this fix i mean)

violet bear
sharp forum
#

What did u test on(sound)

violet bear
#

?

#

like if sound work?

#

youtube, discord, mpd some other stuff

sharp forum
#

😦

#

Try cava(terminal command)

#

Even ik it’s kinda for ricing, but does it move somehow?

violet bear
#

cava works

#

and ncmpcpp visualizer also works

#

both when there is sound and where there isnt

sharp forum
#

Bro then it’s clearly ur hardware problem

#

Does the speaker/headphone/whatever work on other devices?

violet bear
#

why would it get fixed by starting/kill pipewire then

violet bear
#

also a funny

sharp forum
#

Bruh

violet bear
#

i use VMs to play games with anti cheat, and sound works perfectly when i do

#

never had an issue in 300+ hours

violet bear
#

from what i remember, i had a missing package that might have caused pipeiwre to break after streaming sound

sharp forum
#

Wat did u do to”solve”it at that time

violet bear
#

nothing, the issue is random

#

a few people said its the fix and i closed the thread with works "if it didnt fix ill reopen it"

#

that was yesterday and im back

sharp forum
violet bear
#

package was xdg-smth

violet bear
#

should have said that earlier too ig

#

its actually more rare on pipewire

#

the reason for both is pulseaudio doesnt work with some VM stuff for some reason and pulseaudio is the only thing compatible with a VR app i use

sharp forum
#

Try reinstalling them

Rm configs

violet bear
violet bear
crude talon
violet bear
#

single passthrough multiple gpus

crude talon
#

and it happens like after you turn off your vm?

violet bear
crude talon
#

you use a audio server for it too or did you passthrough i guess like a sound card

violet bear
#

dont remember but i think i was injecting VM sound into output, i usually use mpd while in VM

#

ill check

sharp forum
#

Try using a usb(already setter up on it and see if u can play sound on it)

violet bear
#

wdym

sharp forum
#

Use iso such as archcraft, arcolinux

#
  1. Do u hav a usb?
violet bear
crude talon
#

he is trying to say use a live usb to test sound if it works fine in a live enviroment which it most likely will atleast from what i understand

violet bear
#

yeah i got it thx

#

i think it will work too, thats the problem cuz the sound issues are random

#

sometimes i dont have them for days and sometimes its once every 2 mins

sharp forum
#

u might want to copy packages/config from the iso then

violet bear
#

would it not be easier to just grab the default ones?

#

getting archcraft now, slow internet so might take a bit

violet bear
#

oh yeah

#

sry forgot

#

gimme a sek

crude talon
#

yup then its a server

#

really my best guess is arch is getting confused with which audio service to use and just tries using both?

violet bear
#

that would be weird since i only have one running at a time

crude talon
#

yeah

violet bear
#

i could try to just remove one of them and then install pipewire/pulseaudio as i need to use them

#

seems kinda jank tho and doubt it would fix

crude talon
#

i mean why not just use 1 audio service unless you are quite literally forced by using both of them because of apps being picky

violet bear
#

thats whats happening

#

Simula forcing me to use pulseaudio and everything else works better with pipewire/works at all

crude talon
#
  • you are using pulse audio for kvm
violet bear
#

and that

#

pipewire didnt work every second boot (in VM)

crude talon
#

you use jack or usb? for your headphones

violet bear
#

jack

crude talon
#

you ever tried just passing through the audio controller? it should work for jack

violet bear
#

that might work for vms but still doesnt solve simula

#

it just crashes if i try starting with pipewire

crude talon
#

true but maybe its possible (im not sure though) to just make pulseaudio be available to use on 1 app

violet bear
#

doubt, its a VR WM that runs on top of normal WM

#

so i assume it uses pulseaudio internally and i would need to make major patches for it to work

crude talon
#

where can you download simula i cant find it for some reaosn

violet bear
#

its pretty cool but i have a lot of issues with it rn anyways cuz SteamVR sucks

crude talon
#

yeah looks cool but very jank

violet bear
#

stupid jank

#

runs in SteamVR on openXR on a WM on linux (which isnt supported by SteamVR)

#

and im streaming to the headset as well lol

crude talon
#

yeah

#

so like uhh you havent tried considering any alternatives?

violet bear
#

have and ill switch if im basically forced to but id rather not

#

there arent any VR WMs really except for this one

#

that have at least half of the functionality

crude talon
#

Immersed maybe? honestly there is nothing like that that i can think of

#

also im pretty sure they still dont have support on linux for that so yeah

#

(immersed that is)

violet bear
#

honestly making a new one rather than digging around in that huge codebase might be easier

#

just use a desktop streaming solution, make fake screen for each app, add shortcuts
shouldnt take more than a month to get basic functionality down

#

wouldnt need steamvr either

crude talon
#

true

violet bear
#

well ig ill try going with one of them at a time and see if i fixes itself

#

ill leave this open in case someone has any ideas

#

thx for the help

crude talon
#

yeah its quite out my level of knowledge

violet bear
#

thank you
