I know this is a dead aswell as extremely off topic thread, but I might aswell add my comment about Apple (this is knowing very well that I don’t expect anyone to switch from it, it’s just how I think about it). Apple has by far some of THE best consumer tech products. But not only that, their integrations, device connections, and entire ecosystem works unbelievably well all together. Unfortunately, as someone who’s interested in (different than skilled lol) programming and tech, it’s impossible not to see the danger in a company like Apple. Their entire business model seems to be about creating the ultimate technology ecosystem, and then trapping their user base in with no escape. Your mac laptop links with your phone and your tv and your home pod and watch, but when will you find integration with other non-Apple technologies? Windows-IPhone connections have always sucked, and you generally won’t find it easy to operate with Apple products in any way that’s not directly through other Apple products. Nowadays, Apple has their own processor(m1/m2 are fucking amazing is the problem), at least some custom instructions for it (which renders a lot of interoperability near impossible). and of course, they don’t support many open standards (eg. OpenGL or Vulkan) like everybody else and make their own (Metal), they have entirely mac/iPhone-native tech stacks, frameworks, and SO many applications that are mac/iPhone only just because of how custom everything is. It’s a pain in the ass, and it’s scary. It’s like chromium for web browsers. And of course, the infamous lightning chargers and blue vs green texts are perfect examples of their strategy. Tbf it’s smart, it works, and their products are amazing. I’m typing this on an iPhone
