#Artix Linux system freezing at any overuse

Operative system gets entirely frozen at any RAM overuse; usually happens when I'm charging several (6 or 7) Chrome webtabs, using VScode for 10 minutes approximately along with web browser, etc.

There's nothing else I can do when it gets frozen than a forced restart (using power button, sadly), which makes this problem bothering. No access to keyboard nor mousepad.

I've discard any hardware-based problem by trying with other OS in the same device, (including Windows 10, which is a heavy one) and they didn't freeze under the same conditions those Artix was exposed to.

No problem with storage since I have been using this linux distro for 2 weeks approximately.

I would like to have help to spot the problem or to know if it's a problem with the distro.

Thank you so much in advance.

HDD or SSD? If you overuse memory too much it will thrash hard

it's probably your system just dying

#

when it uses too much ram

#

make sure you have like swap

#

and maybe a OOM killer

#

but oom killer is usually last resort

Is it better to choose a last resort or just... change the operative system

#

I like artix, but I don't know if the same problem resides in other arch based systems

it's better to make a swap file

#

or swap partition

#

it's like extra ram but slower trollface

#

helps so your computer doesn't crash if it uses too much ram

Swap will also cause thrashing

#

what is thrashing in this context

Excessive swapping

ah

#

So bad that all the time is spent waiting on disk

#

yeah i see if your gonna have like %50 of your ram stuff on swap instead

#

of actual ram

Having a lower swap shouldn't a problem tho

#

Should it

Shouldn't be

I have had a simmilar-ish problem and swap entirely fixed it

Users of unofficial install scripts and Arch-based distributions may not make support posts using the arch tag. This comes from the Arch Code of Conduct. By installing the system in a way that you do not have control over, you do not know how your system is set up or if a script silently broke something. This can cause huge issues with support, especially if people don't know you used a script.

If you need support with your system, use the other distros tag.

Thanks for the advice, I'll use other distros tag the next time, <3

#

The reason for which I think it's not the RAM is because I've already tried other operative systems and the overuse of chrome doesn't make the system freeze

Please correct me if I'm wrong
