#archinstall does not detect nvme

Yeah that's a problem with the ArchInstall script
Are you comfortable with trying to install it manually?
As long as I can get iwctl and xfce I can work from there
Time to read the wiki again
(Last time I manually installed DNS screwed me over)
Do you need some help to go thru the installation page?
Gonna try it once if not I will be back

Ah
Since this is not my primary drive it was not booted to
Let's check with f12
... it is not there
Grub is my old install
Windows is windows
And EFI USB is the arch usb
Note it is not there Grub is my old install Windows is windows And EFI USB is the arch usb was not found.
Unless I missed a step
Ah I forgot to install a bootloader
Lul
Forgot to set root password and made no other users
Gonna finish in the morning
So I don't annoy anyone at 9:25 with the boot tune
Unless is there a default root password
You'd need to chroot back in and do passwd
Ik that it will be done tommorow
Then I can see what is possibly broken (9:50 pm over here)
Ah k
Okay so I fixed that
But I don't have a DNS
So uhm if anyone knows what I need to install let me know (I allready have iwd to connect)
Did you enable the iwd service?
Yes
Uhhh
Now wlan0 is not showing up (I installed and "configured" dhcpcd)
Dhcpd and systemd-resolved are enabled
Along with iwd
So uhm any idea what I did wrong
Archinstall is unreliable. 50% chance it breaks
I did not use archinstall in this case (since it wouldn't even let me install to /dev/nvme0n1)
So this is manual
How can I select a dns manager if iwctl cannot even see wlan0
It worked during the install phase
Install uses something else for wifi, not sure what
Odd there is no iwd.conf in my old install
Network controller: Intel Corporation Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160MHz (rev 01)
Yeah that should work ootb. Wrong config or missing stuff i guess.
Any idea what I need to fix
Because after enabling dhcpcd and systemd-resolved wlan0 stopped showing up (I rebooted)
Gonna try to reboot
Worst case scenario
I point grub back to my old install
Yeah still no wlan0

Could I just DD it over from mmcblk to nvmen0n1
If you want to start over just boot arch usb and use fdisk to make new gpt table
It will wipe the whole disk (fast format method)
Then just dd the mmcblk
Right if I were to dd if=/dev/mmcblk of=/dev/nvemn0n1 would it just copy everything over
So then just dd the bytes over
Okay so how would I fix this
Ah wait corrected by write
Okay so there is a small section (1mb) could I expand that for my swap space
So how do I expand a partition
Wait if I delete a partition won't all the files be gone
Time to install grub
Odd I installed grub
Ah wait I didn't mkinitcpio
Since I copied from my old install
Ugg
Nope
I even reinstalled the base linux and linux-firmware packages
Because what I did was
Used dd top copy everything from mmcblk
Then used frisk to remove the windows partition, re-create the swap partition and expand the root partition
Then pacstraped base linux linux-firmware into the new root
(Which has all my files)
Copy it with gparted, it's less likely to fail for size reasons
But here's the thing I re-made the boot partition
So the fact that it is not showing up is weird
Okay gonna ask this ahead of time
How do I setup the network
ethernet: should just work(?)
wireless cli: install iwd
I did that
But no dns so I couldn't use pacman to install anything
example /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 1.1.1.1
nameserver 2606:4700:4700::1111
...

Why could I not find that on the wiki
Ugg what do I need to fix this time
Pgp keys again
Sy the keyring
3.5 network config -> network configuration -> "7. Check if you can resolve domain names (e.g. archlinux.org)."
?
pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring
After I boot
i mean that's where it is on the wiki
it's kinda deep but it's expected that you read it once you have that problem
Also I just checked my old arch did not have a resolve.conf
iwd network configuration maybe
are you wireless or wired?
Wireless
But when I do it I don't have a dns
Did I miss a step to set a dns for iwd

Somehow arch install decided to detect nvme now
its just unreliable. not recommended by most people here
that's not really true
I find after a little practice, it's easy enough to install arch manually that archinstall isn't necessary
Yeah, but new users don't have practice lol
well i have tried 4 (iirc) times at this point
and it is always that after reboot there is no DNS
and it seems like all my attempts dont work
because i am able to get to iwd networking
but no DNS
You could try network manager
true but i allready got it "bootstrapped" with archinstall
and was able to copy my files over
now though
does anyone know how to add Windows boot from another device
(since i have linux on nvmen0 and i am going to overwrite linux on /dev/mmcblk0)
Add windows boot?
