that's right.
What to do
Now you've got to be patient with people answering because it's not gonna be instant, and I can't really help much now.
anyways, I also see on your photo that your pacstrap failed
Ye ig
are you sure you have internet connection on the host machine for now?
I'm
is it a laptop or a desktop computer? do you have the Ethernet cable plugged in or not?
64 bites every second?
are you sure you are using the newest install media of Arch? The one from November doesn't work anymore.
Its newest I got from arch site
Download the latest one from archlinux.org, don't download from any other website
start over and follow the Arch guide
Oki thanks
uwufetch received a thank you cookie!
you're welcome
Sure
If you get stuck on a step I will help
Tysm
it's normal for first time Arch users
I didn't even pay that much attention to the commands when I was installing it for the first time
Yeah that's why I'm telling them to read carefully :)
I know, I know
It took me a few installs and a while to know what each command does and what to do
now I just take about an hour or two to get my Arch system up and running, if you're really interested in it, learning Linux stuff is easy and fun
@oak coral when I pinged it showed pining does that mean my network is working?
Yes
it means it ain't working
if you have an android phone, the easiest way to have internet during the installation is to plug your phone to a USB port and use USB tethering, it will tether your WiFi
oh it's working
Thanks
you said only that first PING line, and not the 64 bytes
Sorry
when it repeatedly comes with 64 bytes from archlinux.org, it means that it's working
first create a new GPT partition (if your system supports EFI)
Legacy
press o then
and enter
and then create new partitions with n and change the type of one of them (I'll tell you later when you get progress there)
do fdisk /dev/sda
I'm done here also
Instead of swap I wanna use zram so is it ighty?
Never used it/don't know how to set it up so you're on your own with that sorry
@ me if you get stuck on anything else
looks like you need a swap partition and then run some script after installing arch
How to exit from vim
Sure
Can you actually post the pacstrap command you used as well as information of what is mounted?
It looks from the first picture that you’ve likely mounted the wrong partition to /mnt
I forgot password
Chroot, passwd, passwd <user>
This you’ve just done the install…surely you know the passwd command?
Where to run cheoot
Chroot
.aw installation_guide
See 1.11 and 3.2 in the contents
Yeah…so run the command then
…
Are you changing the password of an existing user or making a new user?
Existing user
Can I make new user from here tho
Yes
Tell how
passwd does the root password, passwd <user> does a specified users password
Syntax error
With the user add command, if you want them to have sudo access best to add them to the wheel group and uncommented the first line of the sudoers file that says wheel
Show me
I did that
@astral otter
Are you joking?
You could have 500 users
<user> is to signify which user you’re talking about
You put in the username you are talking about not literally <user>
I tried specific
That’s placeholder
Nd got same error
Post a good and clear picture of cat /etc/passwd
What was the issue
Typo on username?
What DE / WM are you using?
I did
What dm does it use?
sudo pacman -S --needed xfce4-goodies file-roller network-manager-applet leafpad epdfview galculator lightdm lightdm-gtk-greeter lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings capitaine-cursors arc-gtk-theme xdg-user-dirs-gtk
I installed em
Okay show systemctl status LightDM
On live iso again?
Otherwise I can't access terminal normally
Why can’t you tty?
Where to run it
Google how to tty
Sure
press ctrl+alt+F3
Done
Do you think I don’t know how to TTY? XD
I want them to learn how to google their problems
The command I told you
That one, tty isn’t part of the command
Why not?
Can't find service
Yes
Show me
Try in all lowercase as well just in case if you haven’t already
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/LightDM#Enabling_LightDM
Give that page a read
Might be lightdm on arch
lightdm is lowercase
I mean if you want kde go with kde, if you want gnome go with gnome
It seems to be a common issue
Try Googling it
Or just uninstall and install kde or gnome or whatever
Sure
What keyboard layout did you set?
This is a very nice reply because google told me that was almost definitely the issue
xd
rolled to artix
@astral otterbtw do I paste it here?

yes
gonna get arch repos
and install
artix-archlinux-support
Dunno, never used artix
then it's good enough for me
.note isokeyring
#9309 📣 If you are struggling to run archinstall or pacstrap, the first set of things to do is:
rm -rf /etc/pacman.d/gnupg
pacman-key --init
pacman-key --populate
pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring```
And if that fails, do:
```pacman-key --refresh-keys
pacman -Sy archlinux-keyring```
If refresh keys takes more than a minute just hit ctrl + c and continue, it likely has still worked.
It is not recommended to do the following as you become at risk of installing malicious packages:
```edit pacman.conf
and change the SigLevel to Never in pacman.conf```
Try the top commands
If you need to reinstall the keyring don’t do it with -Sy
The above is because it frequently happens in the iso
ty
YAYAYAY
I would've never rolled to
arch
if this worked before
tysm
@astral otterdo I keep it down server or up
I have no idea, I don't use artix
if you're not using arch repos I'd guess disable the arch repos and enable the artix ones?
hey
I can use arch repos
on artix
Why are you sending me a friend request
oh
sorry
my amd gpu ain't getting used on arch
#readme-support-access
Read the third bullet point
I’ve woken up to this server having like 15 notifications, most of which are moderation based
Those I don’t mind
But damn give me a chance to reply before you ping me
Beyond installing the right amd drivers, if it’s a laptop some sort of program to turn them on when needed, if it’s a desktop making sure that your wires are connected to the gpu and not the cpu for monitor output, I can’t really help you
Laptop
sorry
Then I’m guessing you need something like optimus (I don’t know if that’s maybe just for nvidia?)
It is
I don’t know if this is related maybe:
