Question: How can I add more options to the KDE Plasma desktop "Default Applications" like image viewer, text editor, music, video, etc.? This is lacking compared to other DE's I've used.

KDE how do I add more options to default applications?

For example you can set .mp4 files to open up in a certain program

That is crazy that KDE wants you to manually associate a file type with an application. I thought they would have more default options or maybe an extension addon that gives more options.

Why? This way you can customize it even more

#

You can set mp4 and mkv files to open in different apps

#

That's one example

Yeah I guess so but doesn't seem very KISS. New users may not know about file associations and may just want a simple default application chooser for file types.

Fair enough, though it doesn't seem that complicated even for a new user.

it will prompt you when you try to open a file of that type, also it's automatically set for most stuff

Fair enough, I'll mark as resolved.
