When I open the Gnome graphical file manager, it shows me a set of folders, and I was under the impression that these contained my file system, however I'm beginning to realize that it might be separate from my file system?

#

opening the files app on gnome brings up this menu, which does contain folders and files and such, however this doesn't appear to be the same set of files that exist when i use my terminal to edit files and make changes to things.

#

if i go to 'other locations,' i can choose 'arch linux' which brings up this menu

#

which looks much more like what im looking for

#

are these two different things im looking at or am i missing something?

#

I think I may need to just do some research on how filesystem works, but I'll keep this open until I figure it out in case anyone would be able to explain more comprehensively, and answer my questions.

the first one is your home directory, the second one is the system's root
