#[SOLVED] second monitor stopped working after installing m.2 ssd

Do you have another OS installed, and if so, does that work for both?
Have you moved things from one device to the M.2 drive? or is it simply supplementary to how your system was before?
i only have one os installed which is arch although i have a kvm which the monitor works on
issue happened as soon as i installed the m.2, nothing on it is related to linux as i passthough to the kvm
are both monitors hooked up to your GPU?
yes
and if i unplug the main one the second one turns on
but only one at a time
does your PSU provide enough power for everything in your machine?
yeah i have never had issues before
have you tried taking the M.2 drive out just for troubleshooting?
it should help narrow things down a little if the only chance you made was hardware based
Alright
I just took the SSD out and both monitors work normally
Just when it is in it breaks one of them
my initial reaction is that this is an issue with how much power your machine is using...
maybe with the M.2 drive the PSU can't give out enough for the rest?
Yeah but it works on my kvm?
And I assume it would use more when under heavy load but have never had any other power issues ever
Pcpp estimates 400w and mine is 500 so I should be fine right?
oh both work on kvm?
I'd usually go a bit more above it by that, it could be the estimate is too conservative with how much power your machine uses, or it could be another issue (though so far as I know the only thing using an M.2 port tends to do if anything, is reduce the normal sata port usage)
Yeah on a kvm everything works fine
And it works in sddm
It's only once KDE boots up
Which is why I don't think it's the power
kde or plasma?
I'll try and have a google for plasma specifically
Alr thank you
out of interest, amd? nvidia?
Ryzen cpu NVIDIA gpu
can you see both in nvidia-settings?
I just assumed it was some config and adding the m.2 threw off like a pcie index or something idk
I'll check
Putting it back in now
@eager thistle it works now???
i dont know how but yeah
wait nvm
both work but the second one is just cloning the first one
they are both in the nvidia settings
okay so if they're now mirroring one another, do they show up in whatever settings kde has?
(I'm a gnome user)
i managed to fix it, the displays were on top of eachother in kde after reinstalling the m.2
but before the other one wasnt even there
im not sure how taking it out and putting it back in helped but it worked and i love you
sometimes with troubleshooting you just have to fumble around and hope something works
... solved
