#KDE plasma black screen with cursor on user login but not root
173 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Is a Frankenstein from an old install and a new install
AMD hardware, I just installed the pro driver because I was doing OpenGL dev stuff
I don't..... Really know at all what to try. I fixed all the errors in my journal, and updated everything
But it was working before the pro drivers
But I don't think that was the issue
Famous last words. I'll uninstall the pro drivers
I just don't know why it would help if root works fine
sudo usermod -a -G video $USER
Nope
sudo pacman -Qq | grep "xf86"
I
and its not working even after restarting?
I've rebooted over 10 times
It's not a graphics problem
Because it works fine on root
Wait I'm using GDM
I thought I was using sddm
I'm confused
yeah, use sddm and see if it works
How do I use sddm and not gdm
sudo pacman -S sddm
sudo systemctl disable gdm
sudo systemctl enable sddm
reboot
well it didn't look like ssdm in the video
pacman -Qq | curl -F 'sprunge=<-' http://sprunge.us
I have no idea what the problem is but it looks like you never removed a package in your life
Is there any way to get output from KDE
.s rs
<command to print output> |& curl --data-binary @- https://paste.rs
shorter command, shorter url, easier to remember
- why sudo
- why not use pacman -Qs
wdym
See what it's doing
What's the problem
- doesn't matter
- because i don't need to see what every little thing is
oh
but wasier to remember
uh one sec
oh
I use haste as well
journalctl /usr/bin/plasmashell?? idk
is this what you're thinking of
its a kludgy way of doing it
also, "doesn't matter" could justify using sudo su -c "doas doas doas sh -c 'mount /dev/../dev/sda1 /mnt'"
Ugh
It does a similar thing on cinnamon
Black screen nothing works
But besides a toolbar
Weston works fine
Oh well
Xfce works
Guess thats what I'm using now
It doesn't work
Fuck
I think this is related to a bad push to repos
I’m having a related issue with nvidia and xorg
Says “the control display is undefined”
That’s when running nvidia-settings
What DE?
Xfce4
I tried to open anything and nothing happened
The DE doesn’t matter here as the display isn’t even being detected
Sddm works

Yes
Opening anything
No
Nothing works
Nope
But the funny thing is I can't find any error or anything
Any reference to anything
It's infuriating
Yeah I'm completely out of ideas
i think thats called screen tearing and you can get picom or something to fix it
also how the hell do you get a voice like that
thats your voice right?
That's just how I talk?
???
arent you transfem
That's not my girl voice tho
lspci -k | grep -A 2 -E "(VGA|3D)"
they both sound like amazing girl voices
Currently doing diff checks on these traces
which gpu driver does it say
Nothing
Vocaroo is a quick and easy way to share voice messages over the interwebs.
you sure you typed it all out right?
Lazy being I am
what?
Many many times
hmmm
You know the root issue is that I can't use anything on my non-root users
wikipedia says this happens "when the video feed to the device is not synchronized with the display's refresh rate"
you've been running kde as root?
I've test xfce, gnome, cinnamon, kde
All on root and all on my user
None work
The traces are useless I can't figure out where they diverge
could that be a problem with the refresh rate
or even the monitor itself
Nothing at all to do with my monitor. The screen tearing is...
yeah?
But it means there's an issue with my driver or a library on my computer
Probably
does it work on liveisos
As I said. The issue is something to do with difference between my root user and all other users
If I figure out the problem there this will probably fix itself
it works fine on root, but not on non-root?
have you tried reinstalling xorg
i gtg to school but good luck
APPARENTLY
A BUG IN UIM PROPAGATED ITS WAY INTO RUINING EVERYTHING
i noticed it in a stack trace of firefox
how do i close this
