#How do i connect an external monitor to laptop with a freshly installed Arch
131 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
but i think if you plug a external monitor, it will automatically show your laptop screen simultaneously
no its not showing
is that because of the adapter i am using ?
It converts hdmi to vgi coz my monitor has only vgi port
how do i use xrandr to look for available displays ?
the --listmonitors showing only one monitor
check if your laptop is referenced somewhere on the archwiki, there may be something there
thanks :)
@rough kindle try installing lib32-nvidia-utils lib32-opencl-nvidia lib32-libvdpau lib32-nvidia-cg-toolkit
uhhhhhhhhhhhhh do you have multilib repository enabled?
Ive just freshly installed my arch :')
yea run -Syu
what do you get here when you run -Syu
yeah you dont have the multilib repository enabled
get me that output rq tho
oke
its still downloading :')
no worries lol just wanted the one u sent a sec ago
rq = real quick
smDh :')
heeh
yeah so enable multilib and try installing the packages i sent u
also does the monitor show up in the nvidia x server settings
ok
so
plug in your monitor, turn it on to whatever it should be piocking up on
and then run xrandr and send output
and since ur nvidia
also run n send output for this
/usr/lib/nvidia-current/bin/nvidia-xconfig --query-gpu-info --nvidia-cfg-path=/usr/lib/nvidia-current
and the monitor still isnt recognizing?
well
showing output
here run this
xrandr --listactivemonitors
n lemme see
no such directory
all good
run this
oh that might be specific to the other package then but we'll come back to that if need be
:')
installed all
hey based on my research ive seen that, the main display is connected to my integrated gpu and the ports are connected to my discrete nvidia gpu
ig if thats the problem
: )
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/optimus-manager how to install this
yeah i just want my monitor to work
command ?
look em up
but
follow these instructions
just the first one for "PRIME"
not reverse prime
and follow this
shall i just replace intel with amd everywhere ?
does this do the same thing as the optimus-manager ?
yeah wait
mmm apparently instead of all that
you can just run nvidia-xconfig --prime
anyways ping me with logs if that doesnt work, ima go back to doin work
ok ok brb
heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
optimus manager works
got my screen working
Ill use nvidia alone whenever i use my monitor then
Thank you so much y'all 🙏
nice np
thank you 🙏
