So i installed archlinux recently and tried to dual boot it with windows 11. But when i boot i dont see the option to login into windows anymore. My windows was UEFI, i turned off fast startup and secure reboot, and also i cant see the windows option in UEFI firmware settings too.

Right

#

Boot into arch and open your grub config in your preferred text editor

quasi scarab
#

Nvm found it

hardy osprey
#

There’s two

gray moth
#

did you format the efi partition?

quasi scarab
hardy osprey
#

One gets regenerated after an update so make sure you’re editing the right one

quasi scarab
quasi scarab
gray moth
hardy osprey
gray moth
#

yep

hardy osprey
#

In there you just need to find the line to enable os-prober

#

Enable its, save the run grub-mkconfig or whatever it is

#

I haven’t used grub in a while

gray moth
#

the line should look like this

hardy osprey
quasi scarab
#

Yeah i think ive done it already empty

gray moth
#

uhhhhh

#

can you ls /boot/efi?

hardy osprey
#

Then when you regenerate your grub config it will look at that line and go hunting for windows

hardy osprey
#

You may need to point it to someone I don’t remember

quasi scarab
gray moth
#

can you "ls /boot"?

hardy osprey
#

Can you still boot into windows from your uefi/bios boot override?

quasi scarab
gray moth
quasi scarab
gray moth
#

uhhhhh

hardy osprey
#

This is unfortunate

gray moth
#

it should look like this if you mounted the boot partition to /boot/efi?

hardy osprey
#

I think you formatted your efi partition

#

Oh wait

#

Hold up

#

Run lsblk

#

See if your efi partition is mounted

quasi scarab
#

Or was

hardy osprey
#

Ok its not mounted

gray moth
#

so you got this boot partition, whatever this is? and the linux boot partition?

hardy osprey
#

Run sudo mount /dev/nvme0n1p1 /boot/efi

#

Then ls /boot/efi

#

I’m just guessing which one is your efi partition

#

Os-prober didn’t find it cause you don’t have your efi partition mounted

#

If the files are there after you mount it you may want to regenerate your /etc/fstab so it automounts in the future

#

You probably just forgot to mount it during setup

gray moth
#

ok now ls that EFI folder

gray moth
quasi scarab
gray moth
#

uhhhhhh

hardy osprey
#

Nope that’s right

#

You’re good to regenerate your fstab then

quasi scarab
gray moth
#

isn't it supposed to show a microsoft folder?

hardy osprey
gray moth
gray moth
hardy osprey
#

So /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft

#

Etc

quasi scarab
gray moth
#

yes that is windows 10

hardy osprey
#

what I meant is that it is there he just ran ls on /boot/efi not /boot/efi/EFI

gray moth
hardy osprey
#

So we’re good

gray moth
hardy osprey
gray moth
#

yes

#

i told him to ls to the "EFI" folder

hardy osprey
#

‘ls /boot/efi’

gray moth
hardy osprey
#

Whereas in your screenshot you ran ls /boot/efi/EFI

gray moth
#

i told him to ls to the "EFI" folder when he did ls to /boot/efi

#

which i also assume that he did "ls /boot/efi/EFI"

hardy osprey
#

Right, my bad

gray moth
#

@quasi scarab can you confirm?

hardy osprey
#

can you send us a screenshot of ls /boot/efi/EFI

quasi scarab
quasi scarab
hardy osprey
#

Ah

#

This is problematic

gray moth
hardy osprey
#

Is this your only efi partition or is there another one

gray moth
#

he has like 3?

#

p1 which is 512m (probably the windows recovery partition?)

#

p2, the 100M one

#

and p12, another 512M one

quasi scarab
#

Yeah

hardy osprey
#

This is p1

gray moth
#

no, this is p2

hardy osprey
#

Oh

gray moth
quasi scarab
#

Should i mount p1 too`?

gray moth
#

also the windows boot partition is 100M

hardy osprey
#

Try unmounting this and mounting p1

#

Isn’t it usually 500M?

#

I don’t remember lol

#

Actually 100M does sound familiar

gray moth
#

no, windows does 100M

hardy osprey
#

Ye, I use a separate linux efi partition when i dual boot

#

My bad

quasi scarab
#

I think p1 isnt efi

gray moth
#

yeah it isn't efi

#

so this is the windows one

#

and since it doesn't have winddows data, uhhh

hardy osprey
#

Yeah

quasi scarab
#

So i should just install it again?

hardy osprey
#

You’ve formatted it accidentally

hardy osprey
#

No need to reinstall either os

#

Although the windows installer might overwrite your grub stuff so make a backup (copy the GRUB folder to your home or something)

#

Only problem is that its a bit annoying to make a windows install media on something other than windows

#

:pain:

quasi scarab
#

I think my flash doesnt work after installation

#

I have to buy a new one

#

Cuz i cant fix this shit

hardy osprey
#

Do you have another windows machine

quasi scarab
#

Yep

hardy osprey
#

Oh easy then, Michaelsoft have a thing for making an install media from an arbitrary flshdrive

#

Needs to be >8GB iirc
