Every time the temperature changes, the game hangs for between 10 and 20 seconds. This only started occurring fairly late into my playthrough, but it seems related to using reindeer hide insulation, as the lag only started happening after I began insulating my housing districts with hides. It may also be linux related, however that seems less likely as I didn't experience these issues at the start of the run, only later on.

Turn off heat automation

I'm pretty sure it occurs because calculating all the different combinations of heat is extremely computationally expensive because the number of combinations scales exponentially with number of districts (each new district means it has to check 6 times as many combinations)

Okay but do you have 50 bajillion adjacent districts

It seem to me the likely explanation would be that when the temperature of a district changes it has to check if it affects any other districts and if you have many adjacent districts that have many neighbouring districts each that's more calculations to run
