Nope, it's closed. I believe it was planned to be open at a later point though (when the cave itself had more content). Though I'm not entirely sure about that.

Lol I closed it after watching Magreon cheese the golem from inside. I'm guessing it was a few months after the Farm n Forge update launched. Maybe for Witch's Eve or Frostfall.

It very well could have just been a Farm n Forge patch.
But yeah. The tents up the road by the windmill were the temporary home of the deep iron miners. You defeated the golem and they would move back into their shop and open the mine for you. They would also repair an elevator for you to go deeper into the mine.
But that got cut for time. It'll eventually go back in I assume.

I'm 90% certain it was the post-Farm-n-Forge Witch's Eve update that closed the house. I distinctly remember using it to hide from the golem many a-time right up until October.

sorry for necro, but playing as an archer if you back from the golem spawn and make him follow you to the right side of the nearby shed, you can just get him stuck there without any effort
in fact, most bigger enemies are prone to this. for example, shadows in WW
